Glad to be here. Thanks to null for starting this  forum and keeping WOD alive and well for all these years.   I've been playing quake now for almost 13 years online and can't even remember all the good weapons servers i've frequented. I remember el paso as being a big one and that one(can't remember the name) that would hack your i p and screw up your settings because they could.

Met lots of good players here and even attented a LAN party in seattle  12 years ago where 15 or 20 of us all met at a guys house (Merlin i think) with our comps and played q2 in the same room for 2 days straight. I may have drank a bit too much at that one since i couldn't get my comp to  sync with all the others until the second day.

I look forward to lots of good talk and different topics getting discussed here as well as  helping nulls server evolve into the best WOD server there is.

Some old names popping up in this thread......good to see.  Brings back some memories.  I cut my teeth on the Gumby's and Altered Realms COMPWod servers.  Those infectious players such as Badassdad, Elmer Fudd, Luftwaffe, LOF Shagadelic (one of the best Q2ers ever), DOA Flatline, and of course, McClane, are hard to forget.

Thanks for keeping it going all these years.

Hi all. Just wondering if you might consider changing the mymap option so one person can't dictate the map selections.

Perhaps changing it so that a majority vote is needed(as is done in whale) so one player can't constantly go to the same map over and over again which angers all the other players.

888 was abusing this a lot but I believe his issues are already being dealt with in another forum.

It's ok for me to sit though you favorites 1-8 without one complaint.
However, if I happen to enjoy using the "mymap" feature to play one, or maybe even two, of MY favorite maps (only after your 1-8 is finished) then you would like my vote silenced? Kind of makes the whole "MY MAP" options moot. Maybe it should be called "YourMap" or "majoritymap"

Thanks to Quadz for having some common sense methods to make this server enjoyable for all, and not just some..

I'm assuming your "1-8" comment might refer to whatever maps are in the set rotation. Unless someone actually mymaps a map, then it's inaccurate to say you're having to sit through their favorites as if they picked them and now you're forced to play them.

Furthermore, I don't think Quadz actually owns or operates the Wod server, just wallfly that links the server to other servers in the Tastyspleen network via the goto command.

So if you're abusing or over-using the mymap function there, you can probably expect even less tolerance for such behavior than what Quadz might offer.

Some people have distinct habits and systems they use for certain maps. One might notice that several experienced duel and TDM players will join DM and excel when the map is Q2DM1, but struggle (or leave) when it's any other map. These people are pretty much lame-o's. They sometimes will even join and attempt to mymap Q2DM1.

Some of the folks on the xatrix servers exhibit similar traits. They pick maps where they are confident that they can control and hoard the weapons and powerups that will give them the advantage over others rather than relying on aim and fighting skills. If a normal non-custom map (with thoughtful map design and item placement) comes up, they usually leave. Meanwhile, other casual players are forced to endure their lame juvenile tactics. The perpetrator knows it's lame. They know it's juvenile. They laugh at their victims while it's happening. And when they are called out for it on the forums... they either try to act like they did nothing wrong or they try to play the victim. They will usually show up with new or seldom used avatar-less accounts with single digit post counts.

I didn't think so either.

Turns out we do have one called "wod-x" that we took onboard when we migrated the servers that Gator used to host.

It's the only WOD server I can find in the WallFly network that even has "mymap" enabled.

And it's only been used once in the past year:
