Finally gotten some quality time into q2 lately, and managed to shake off the worst inactivity on my part. This is probably the most focused duel I've played in a really long time, so I decided to put it up. A really hpb'ish demo though, so don't expect flashy rushing attacks.

A bit campy, but a nice rail by sewer and a lucky rocketfrag by lift.

PS: the rematch was annoying as hell from my pov, so I wont put that up. Heheh, great rails by haunt there though

good moves daelmun, your predictions are very interesting and accurate. you pwned haunted! lol, all I could see the whole map was him running for his life. mmm n00b....breakfast of champions.

I know you ping high but, brrrrr.... so much chain, it even gets annoying while watching. I wonder how dueling would be without it

Hehe, I actually thought I didn't use chaingun that much in this one. I usually whore it even more the lower ping I have. Thought I used the weapons pretty ok,very conservative and secure, and not often obviously using the wrong weapon. And to me chaingun is among if not the most intresting weapons to watch in duels, not so much in this game though, as my aim was horrible due to high ping. Anyway, I understand that you find hpb chaining pretty annoying, as it's not very stylish

Anyway, duelling on q2dm1 is primarily about rl and chain. Teamplay on q2dm1 is primarily about rail.

To watch duelling without chain, just watch q2dm3 demos

Of course you're absolutely right about chain in Dm1 but I just can't help it, to me it's like hearing mosquito buzzing, it gets on my nerves! I guess that is what makes the weapon so effective:)

heheh, it sounds silly but I always feel kind of lame when chaining some 'poor' soul to pieces, especially when it's taking painfully long:) Usually when someone is really whoring the chain I try to stay away as much as possible and annoy them back with the SS from a distance, and steal the bullets of course. Doesn't always work but it keeps the score somewhat lower.

Funniest part of the demo for me was that stand off near the chaingun stairs where you both were shooting like 15 rockets waiting for the other to come out.

Think there were two of them actually, one a little short though. Quite often when you go for rail, you sacrifice your megacontrol. I had successfully gotten rail and just gotten my foot inside the mega, and was prepared to stay there regardless, waiting for the armor and mega to spawn. Besides, I had so many rockets I could spam a lot, and hoped that haunted would use up some of his as he has a tendency to run out of rockets every now and then. It's sorta hpb'ish cheap spamming that I try to not do too much when playing else, it's really not very fun for either player, but I really wanted to win this game.

As for chain, I only whore it in teamplay or duels. In ffa I never use it unless I accidentally pick it up and it's my last gun. Much more fun getting rl frags or rail frags when just joking around anyhow. But in duels I enjoy the way you can maintain momentum while aiming and firing the gun, and a good chainchase is always great fun. Another good thing about it is the strategical usage of the gun, how to position yourself compared to the opponent, forcing him to move in the direction you want. Chain is as much good aim, as it is good positioning. If I had lower ping I would probably use ssg against a player as fast as haunted, it is great to mess up jumps and movement so it's harder getting chased by ssg at times. But I'm having hard time getting the consistency on my ssg that I want and need in games like these, where any missed shot can be your death in chases like that.

Anyway, you could always get another chaingun sound if the buzzing is too annoying
