Models, Skins, and PAKs(2012 EDITION)

I didn't really find much help on the other posts. And if there were, they were all dead links(404's )

I figured this could be a more updated thread on a HOWTO guide for the newbies like me

So anyway! I recently got an idea to make a PAK, but I have no idea how to make a pak file! I don't know what to use to make skins, or models. I am completely NEW at this. I just don't get it. What's the easiest way to go about starting? I've seen crazy stuff on the DM server where there are people with models as beavis and butthead, and then I think I saw a Yoshi one too. How can I do this? I am willing to learn... I just need some direction.

if i understood you, you want to use a custom model like the others you see?

You dont need to make a pak for player skins/models.
Just go in your Multiplayer - Player setup and choose the model you want.
Theres tons of custom models made.

I wanted to make my own though. And I still wanted to make a PAK. Like I said I have an idea down. I just need to learn how to do this.

 A modelling thread is a good idea!

You will need a 3d modelling program first.
I started by using Milkshape 3d.
Its available as a 30 day trial which is a full version but it will time out after a month and you wont be able to save anything
Nowadays I use Maya to make the model and Milkshape 3d to animate and apply the skin.

I recommend you buy the licenced Milkshape 3d version. It`s only $35 and easy to learn. It has to be the fastest way to get modelling.
There are a few tutorials included with Milkshape 3d and a handfull more on the web.

You will also need a paint program to make the skins.
Wally and Irfanview are ok and free but you can get better results using Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop.

You could try getting Pak explor make a new pak and get SKIN MAPS MODELS etc ... and put it into the pak but I think all models have to be PNG files.
