its kinda sad honestly... the graphics card is alright which is cool, but im pretty sure that processor is bottle necking it... not to mention hes probably got some bargain bin hard drive, the processor is about as cheap as he could go cause he wanted more cores for cheap rather than actual performance and he wont be using all those extra threads... he has the slowest possible ddr3 and only has 4gb of it... his cooling solution is a joke, "big ass fan" lol its just a 120mm and that cpu heatsink sucks, not to mention that looks like a 20$ case... his powre supply is only 600w limiting any kind of upgrade he could possibly do... and he says his motherboard has "super oc capability" but that shit wouldnt OC much at all and hes not using those nice bios features in the first place...

its really not hard to build a computer, but you can still do a very poor job at it

also, good computer wont make you a good player... cant fix stupid

dude i upgraded twice. before when i had a GTX 550 TI and a dual core 3.0 ghz processor, i then realized, that was the one culprit which was creating the bottlenecking. Even with that setup, the PC ran the game at around 30 - 80 frames. My PC runs battlefield 3 with a constant 60+ frames on a 64 player server now.. i used the guide that was on the Geforce website and maximized my value with a cheaper solution. Instead of paying for overpriced Intels parts. so you know more than techs that list information on a major multi-million dollar industry website..  it seems to me you're the one who don't know anything about computers. 

i use more computing power than you will ever even need for some modern game like bf3

games are a horrible benchmark... the fact you use that shit to rate your computers performance means you know very little

when i built my computer i was actually overclocking and tweaking everything to perfection just to score some higher benchmark scores, i know what creates bottle necks, i know what gives you performance... not to mention, i can actually USE 8gb of ram, and over 3ghz on 8 threads, and all the cuda cores in a high end graphics card for more than idiotic web browsing and the occasional new game

building computers is easy, its something i have gotten PAID to do for a long time now, and its still not even my main area of focus in my studies

golgo, you have no idea how far out of your league most people on these forums are when it comes to computer anything

@reaper i am aware of that... you can still get some shitty cheap fujitsu or hitachi drives i personally would NEVER use but many cheap system builders do because they cost less pre gig... then there is also the cheaper slow solutions from both WD and seagate which if you are building a computer for any sort of performance you stay away from

What's truly sad is he claims how much better he is than me because of some random railz ffa win he posts when I was getting 10-15 fps cuz of R1GL, then refuses to play me on the next map even after I told him I wouldn't care about losing, just that I was framing really bad.  My computer's seriously dwarfed compared to Golgo's.

Thats more than enough to play quake 2 on. i used to play quake 2 on a 350mhz, 96 megs of ram, 32 and upgraded to a 64 meg card. you more than likely have all your settings messed up and a old hard drive filled with clutter.

The first computer I played Q2 on was a Cyrix 150MHz, 16 megs of RAM, a 1 meg graphics card and a 1 gig hard drive... ok, it was 320x240 software mode but it DID run. Well... walked. LOL!

Yeah, Golgump can't really tell the difference between computer problems and his sexual problems.  For sure, my hard drive isn't cluttered...I just sys restored a month ago.

I did research and found it's definitely the Intel Onboard POS...everyone says it won't do fucking games for shit.  The processor and RAM is actually good for q2, but that vidcard cancels it all out.

Hell, I'd be willing to bet even if I had a 5 Ghz and 8 gigz RAM, if all I had was the Intel chipset I'd still be lagging in q2.  I'm gettin a vidcard soon. 

just fix the software renderer and you will be fine... looks kinda meh but it will be smooth

That shit's as useless as tits on a boar. I have no idea who they had in mind when designing shit that way. It really isn't even good for typical web browsing since what has become "typical" is being able to watch videos. I guess if all you're doing is using browsing emails, viewing small resolution short videos, or typing a novel you're wanting to publish, then yeah, it gets it done. But these days, people's computers have become a main entertainment alternative to television.

You could run quake2 in software mode, but it still won't be terrific. Those integrated video chips are so shitty, it might suck in software mode too. Getting a REAL video card is the only way to go. Even with a properly running system, you can tell a definite difference in performance between software and openGL. Hell, with a system like that, you could probably find a used computer store and get a 256mb or 512mb card dirt cheap. That would be the best thing. There's really no need to get some top of the line brand spanking new video card with 5bazillion gigasperms of memory. Your CPU is a little old, and games that would really utilize a top-of-the-line card like that wouldn't even run on CPU that slow. Computers are like cars, you usually gotta match the shit up or it sucks. You don't go putting a military tank motor in an ice cream truck, it'll just flip and kill a bunch of kids the first time you tap the gas in a turn. Not an entirely accurate metaphor or whatever, but I still like the idea of ice cream trucks running over children.
