Anonymous won't be so god damned anonymous when the FBI and Homeland Security get involved. They think they've taken pages out of other "organizations" handbooks by not being technically centrally organized in order to avoid a crippling prosecution that would fine the shit out of it and bankrupt it into non-existence. But most of them aren't smart enough to evade detection by todays competent military/government backed anti-terrorist hackers. They try some shit and a few of them get caught for it, the rest will see them get fist-fucked up to the elbow by the long arm of the law and realize that they'd rather not be in prison for 5 to 10 years or more. You knowingly attack a government organization and you're more than likely going to get charged with terrorist activities however they formally define it. That's a headache NOBODY wants over the ability to download a few free mp3's or buy 100 vicodin online.

People wanna point the finger at the movie and music industry as the primary fund driving this effort, but I think the pharmaceutical industry has a lot larger hand in it than anyone wants to really talk about. They're losing REAL money when people are buying imported generic drugs. Why do you think they want universal healthcare for everyone? You think everyone's gonna get it for free? Hell no, they'd rather have EVERYONE chipping in for healthcare rather than a percentage paying a lot. It means more money coming in. It all comes down to MONEY. Wherever the money is, that's where the government is going to go. The government doesn't see as much income from siding with the internet as they do from siding with music and movies and big drug companies. They help out the motion picture industry now for a small fee, just something to "wet their beak a little", and the motion picture and media industry will probably agree to thank them by giving them further contributions, good press, or other privileges.

You wanna call it corruption, but that's not really accurate. "Corruption" is just the way the world works. Always has, probably always will. There's not much difference between a Sicilian mafia and the federal government when you really look at it for what it is. Only in the federal government, they don't always whack people for breaking the rules of the game. Instead, they just arrest them, fire them, or make them go away some other way. Corruption is a term usually denoting taking an unfair advantage over someone else. While they may not take such a clearly visible unfair advantage over EVERYONE in the country, you can't deny that it does happen. And by the way, not all mafia families pillage and burn everyone they come into contact with either. They may be crooked as a pigs dick, but they're businessmen just like anyone else and realize the value of garnering peoples trust.

So basically what I'm saying here is: you should trust the government about as much as you would trust your local mafia family. Maybe the family controlling your city is keeping hard drugs out of your particular area, but that doesn't mean they always have your best interests at heart.

If by limiting options you mean PAYING for the same amount of music, movies, software, and medicine... I highly doubt it. If these jackoffs are seeing huge dollar signs thinking "WOW, LOOK AT ALL THE MONEY WE'RE GONNA BE RAKING IN NOW!", they're in for a rude awakening. Homies is broke these days. People are NOT going to start BUYING all the shit they would've otherwise downloaded for free. Well... I know I for one WILL NOT. They can kiss my Irish ass.

Really shows just how corrupt people are when it comes to this kind of thing. If the government CAN do it to maybe increase profits, then they will.

Not hip on this shit, what exactly does "defacing" a website mean? Putting up some shit that the website owner didn't do himself?

If I were gonna hack into a government website and start fucking with the pages as a joke, I'd probably put a huge banner at the top of the FBI homepage saying "TODAY ONLY! MURDER IS LEGALIZED FOR 24 HOURS! NO PRISON TERM! (some restrictions apply, prices and participation may vary)"
