Gotta love Dish Network

I moved to North Carolina a little over 1 year ago.  We purchased a house, and of course we needed to set up phone/tv/internet services.  We found that it was not cheaper to bundle all three through any company, but cheaper if we signed a 2 year agreement with Dish Network, and a 1 year agreement with TWC for phone/internet.  The year ended on TWC, and our bill jumped $30 a month, and along the way we added HBO/Showtime to DN, so we were paying around $190 for phone/tv/internet.  We randomly got a call from TWC to upgrade to a 3/1 bundle at $111 a month, +$200 credit towards any early termination fees from a competitor.  We jumped on the offer, and went through a painful cancellation process with Dish Network.  They told me that I needed to return 2 receives, 2 remotes, and the LNBF(s) from my satellite dish.  At first I thought nothing of it, but then I realized that all of the Dish Network equipment was in place when we bought the house.  I went through the entire process of removing the LNBF assembly, and knew that it looked naked compared to when we first bought the house.  I called DN, and asked them if it was necessary to return the LNBF(s) as I already owned them, and of course I spoke to an outsourced Phillipino who said, Yes, to avoid charges, please return the equipment.  I wasn't satisfied, and knew that I wouldn't be able to get through to someone who didn't really understand what I was saying, so I went online, and probably ended up speaking to the same damn person.

You always lease from Dish.  They should of replaced the LNB's when they activated you but the installer didn't (a contractor, not a Dish employee).  You don't own any of it unless you buy it & the TV companies don't sell, only the internet ones, and they're a rip anyways.

I'd just ditch the TV anyway.  Not worth paying $$ to sit on your but staring at a box doing nothing.

Well I think the deal is that you have Dish Network and you move, all you have to do is bring the DVR box with you to the new house, they will come out and install the new dish on the outside of the house for free. You leave the old dish attached to the old house you moved from. I guess they're hoping that the new owners will see the dish on the house and go, "Well, we've already got the dish on the house, so lets just go with Dish Network." It works out better for them that way.

Ah, I see.  Well even though I'm not using it, I didn't want a dish assembly with a bare arm and unplugged cables, and I don't want to do the work of actually removing the entire thing, so I just worked around it.  It just looks like I have Dish Network. 

The install was pretty simple for the contractor...the switch and everything was in place, already wired, he just had to install the boxes and make sure the dish was aimed properly. 

As for getting rid of tv, I would totally be with you, but the wife loves it.  I really only keep up with one program - Breaking Bad.

About 10 years ago my boys were not minding me and I cut the end off the cord of the only TV in the house and tacked it up in the kitchen with this note: the TV is out of service until further notice; Thank you, Management.  I told them every time they asked when they where going to get it back I would add two weeks.  It stayed that way for 6 months.    They knew my one TV indulgence was football, but I surprised them by being satisfied with listening to the games on radio. He He. Man, did I get their attention!

The only show I watch is Castle and if the TV broke (it looked like it was on it's way out at the start of summer but "fixed itself?") I'd either watch it on the internet (not likely) or I'd just get it when it went on DVD.  My wife just bought me season 3 as a surprise.

I mostly watch whatever I have in my DVD collection.  Out of all of that (which isn't much) I mostly watch Castle or News Radio on DVD.  I can't seem to get bored with either.  I don't have the time to sit down and watch TV/movies.   I'd rather play a new game or do work around the house.  The bed I made because I don't watch TV is pretty awesome.
