letter from my isp

over the past week i have been laggin like hell to all TS servers. I get bad packet loss, poor connection quality, some parts of all maps "grab" me while playing, its been frustrating, so i use a tool to do some tracing and it showed i was getting between 10-100% packet loss. So i write my isp and show them what i found and this was there response....

Hi Steve,

I have had a good look at the graphing that we have been doing on tastyspleen.net and it appears that from around 2am through to 5am this morning there has been a much higher latency to get to it.

Most of it was between 25% to 50% however there was a point at around 4 am where it did go to 50% - 75%, prior to that it has been quite good so I wouldn't consider it to be an issue as for the most part it hasn't had packet loss like this and it was only for a short time which could be caused by quite a lot of legitament reasons.

I will keep an eye on the graphing over the next week just to see if there is anything else out of the ordinary.

never said the ppl who ran my isp where all that smart. i remember i rang em one time about a problem i was having and they tried to insist that i had 2 phone points in the house. it took me 15 minutes to explain i only have the one phone socket in my house. turned out to be a faulty splitter

so you DID have two phone points in your house. 

The guy on the phone doesn't run it.  The people who run it are very smart.  The people who answer the phones are relatively dumb because most people calling are relatively dump.   

If the lag is constant call them during the day when it's happening.  They can then (in theory) check the connections right then.   When I've had the occasional issue my ISP would start running a trace between their box in town I'm on and me to see if it's in that area.  One time the transformer on the pole was bad.  Another time is was my socket at the box.
