I've been putting it off for a while now but I've got my PC problems fixed and now I managed to polish up 5 of the 6 maps I was doing  -

PSX Beta 1A map pack 1:

Aquaplex was going alright but then the fackless editor decided to not save any surfaceflags, so I got irritated and now it still needs that doing as well as sounds and area/ambient lighting. Right now I don't feel up to it but if anyone else wants to do it I'll give ya the map file.

I`m not sure why it would be illegal to convert QL maps over to other games. As long as they`re not direct rips with the same assets and all, it s/b fine. If someone can convert the Q1 maps legally without using any of the original assets, seems okay.

That argument is flawed since all original Q1 maps are open source.

Only the engine + game code was open sourced.  (Meaning, in this context, freely distributable and modifiable under the conditions of the GPL.)

The assets (textures, maps, sounds, etc.), to my knowledge, were never released under a license allowing free distribution.

This is why we're still obligated to purchase the game to obtain the assets.

I just wish someone would do the same for the Q2 maps  :yessign:

But at least the D3 source code will be released within the next 2 months or so. I've been busy getting Q2 to run in idTech 3, but screw that! idTech 4 will be much better!

Q2 deathmatch map sources have been routinely released by the id guys when asked privately in e-mails. I'm sure if you wrote an e-mail asking, they wouldn't mind providing some.

There's at least a q2dm1 .map floating around. Someone got it while trying to get his q2dm1 CTF mod underway. I thought someone here once got a q2dm3 as well. Most of that is uncessesary though. We've got decompilers and anyone willing to put in the effort has fixed the lighting, texture, and surface flag glitches that come with decompiling.

Changes:
- scrapped that shitty qrad3, now using arghrad lighting
- sky light sourcing
- other lighting improvements
- sound adjustments
- added ps3 (Aquaplex)
- clipping and ladder clipping adjustments
- other minor improvements

Known issues:
- Warehouse still has really shit lighting so don't bother too much with that map for now.
- Aquaplex is a little dark in places.

The rest of the maps are practically final version now, especially Mainframe and Coliseum.

Looking good MuffinMan. I agree with you about the lighting - it`s amazing how much more difficult it is to get good lighting in id tech 2 than id tech 3.

Here`s a beta of my remake of Hydraphobia (q2ps9ba) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27277779/q2ps9ba.bsp. I had to "cheat" quite a bit to get good lighting. If you were to look at it in the editor, you`ll see a bunch of floating light brushes. Basically I followed a tutorial about area lighting and it worked pretty good, although I can honestly say that this map still doesn`t deserve any medal for lighting. Hopefully it looks okay though. The main thing is to let me know about any items that I`m missing or shouldn`t be there.

Alright I PM'ed you the map source so you can see how I went about doing things. Will give feedback on ps9 soon, but it's looking promising!

Still, if anyone has feedback on ps1-6 then tell me, otherwise they should all be final pretty soon.

Well, I did notice on Aquaplex and Mainframe that the bots keep spawning at one place, telefragging each other constantly. Although I spawn somewhere else.

Edit: Actually, it turns out that ps3 only has one spawn point and dm5 only 2  :WTF: I'll add more for the final version, and we should pack the final maps together with bot files, levelshots and arena files for mods that support them (maybe Q2E relights too).

Sounds like a plan. I might even convert one of the maps over to Q3 for the heck of it, whichever one has the best layout or play as far as PC gameplay goes.
