Last Space Shuttle rolls to the Pad

Lastnight the last Shuttle (Atlantis) rolled from the VAB to the Pad.  I was lucky enough to be able to take my family to see the last rollout, it is very impressive to see it up close.  It is also sad to know its the last one.

Was reading about this,  is kinda sad.   But there is some good news..   We just saved ton of money on our space program.

Although, now the Russians can price gouge us now when we need a lift.

Nahh, NASA (heh almost spelled NASCAR, imagine that), but anyway, (OMG I almost did it again), ok, NAAASSSAAAAhhh will just leave it to the private sectors now. There is many Billionaires with some pretty great space programs out there already. NASA will just start hiring subcontracters.

How has this affected your work?  Were you able to keep your job?  Or did you have to find something else?

I'm still employed, but thousands of others are not. 

I have been there over 27 years and it is the worst I have seen it.
My area is in good shape because we work R&D, but other areas are struggling.
Budgets are extremely tight so just getting what you need to work is sometimes challenging.
I have to be careful what I say, because any reason to drop more people would probably be welcomed.

I worked with a former NASA employee. He was really cool and he had a lot of stories to tell (like meeting Ron Howard) but his department was one of the first to go in the past few years.
