Logitech LX700 wireless mouse issues.....
« on: December 30, 2005, 07:38:27 AM »
I am now using this mouse and about every five minutes or so it seems to skip.

Right now I'm using R1Q2 client and the latest drivers for my mouse. It is being used in it's USB configuration.

Anyone heard of any solutions for getting rid of the "skip"?

*edit I just noticed that all my buttons that I push in the "skip" follow up after the game catches up. Which means if I'm tracking a player and am firing rockets, when the skip ends all the times I fired get activated. So if I'm facing a wall after it catches up, I'm firing rockets right at it. Not too pleasant.

Does it happen only in directx games?
Does it happen when you play single player or online?
Did you recently install a program which may have changed your system settings?

I had a problem where every minute or so my mouse would pause for about one second; but only in quake games.  Turned out that

1) %windir%\system32\dxdiag.exe
2) sound tab --> Hardware Sound Accelleration Level --> lower
3) exit
4) %windir%\system32\dxdiag.exe
5) sound tab --> Hardware Sound Accelleration Level --> back to highest

fixed the problem.

Defiant,

Yeah that helped a bunch, not fixed but helped....now I have to get my R1Q2 to default to use immediate input from directx mouse. Hopefully that solves the problem. I'm going to try and turn of m_filter as well.

on wireless network myself.  wife had a wireless mouse/kb.  worked excellent.  All the problems are normally with the software, not the hardware (wii's wireless, GC wavebird wireless, no issues there).

sounds like something is demanding the resources of the wireless receiver.  try plugging in to a different USB port, one that has nothing else on it.

Latency is not good for gaming. Wireless devices have more latency then wired devices, no question.

i was always under the impression it's not due to latency but due to possible data loss.  50" of cat6 would have more travel time from one end to another vs 10" of wireless network but a nearly 99% guarantee it will arrive vs interference that can be easily mess with a broadcast signal.

that's bandwidth though, not latency.  there's not 1000gb cable/dsl net connections eigther.  Most max out at 10mb, average is 3-6.

Are cables really THAT annoying?  On the other hand you have to contend with batteries, less responsiveness, interference, possibly greater potential for eavesdropping, increased price, and increased complexity (and hence more that can break).

Where's the 1000 GBs wireless? Hmm...
Just wait for spatial multiplexing to develop.  :)

besides the batteries, i love wireless.  in fact, the batteries aren't an issues either: keep 4 rechargeable AA's ready at all times.  :)

my wife used wireless kb/mouse/headsets on her old comp.  she loved it.  UHF mouse+kb, was just as responsive as my corded mice.  because it was UHF they had quite a long range.  To bad they don't make UHF mice any more.  :(  She currently has a wireless Radioshack FM headset.   that's pretty nice.

she goes wireless for two reasons: 1) cats can't chew through cables & 2) chairs can't run over cables.  Plus I'd get everything on sale so key wireless kb/mouse cost no more then a wired kb/mouse.

Before i got her those I would of agreed they would of sucked.  but they didn't.  if she didn't have a laptop now shed have a wireless kb now (i got her to love a trackball though, so no more mouse for her).

wireless mice usually weigh heavier due to the batteries, you can lose some physical responsiveness due to the excess weight, but then again the excess weight could help to better steady your aim.  also when the batteries aren't dead, but near dead, you can lose responsiveness and it does suck to lose battery power mid-game. for battery operated mice, rechargeable is the way to go otherwise you'll be spending a ton on batteries.

cords do sometimes annoy a little in different ways.

there is no other significant technical difference in responsiveness and speeds between the two unless your wireless has interference. cords can be to short, they can get chewed or damaged, etc.  It all depends on your needs.

I'd be more worried about the differences between ball, optical, and laser.  laser is the way to go since it works on the most surfaces without problems.
