i've seen a bunch of demos with people duelling on this map, purri and other big dawgs in the game. played apathy on it and he hated it. what are your thoughts on it as a duel map, I think it's fantastic fun with several control points essential.

competition-wise: It's potential lied in q2's earlier stages with the metagame, I think. Those old demos are cool and fun to watch, but I still think it's marginally different from your basic "duel map category".
As in, q2 was dueled on all the time when the game first came out, but so were a lot of other even worse ones. Seemingly, once the metagame evolved though and new maps coming out, dm2 was shunted out until it wasn't a choice even in a 9+ map pool...
Primarily a 4v4 map for me, but I'd play it.

Daelmun said it was a fun 1v1 map for him.
I said it was too big n stuff for 1v1, and he laid it all out for me.
Wonder if I have that demo....

you can camp ra and rail
get a RL if you can between rail/ra spawns, mh is a nice bonus as well... and you can literally just camp the high ground all day long
plus its easy to pull a +back hiding noob thing on it...
its cool for 2v2 or more i guess, but 1v1 i dont think so

haunted, I can see where you're coming from. naturally the game is faster than it was years ago and whether it meshes well with the current meta is questionable, perhaps like dm3 it is one of the maps that play better for me because I am slower and rely on brain not aim to win games. definitely one of the better 4v4's for me as well, I love it.
ra and rail is harrassable in a multitude of ways, if not grenading them and spamming rockets into the lift openings then straight up rocket jumping from the ladder to the ra and attacking them head on. if people are intent on camping in there it is very easy to flush them out and they'll be scoring nothing, mega will be left exposed, chain and rocket exposed. my point was when I said there are two areas to be controlled, unless you are dominating hard you can't feasibly hold both without some resistance/countergrabbing of important items. also it's easy to +back on any map, NA plays one of the best maps for +backing like a champ 24/7 so I can't take that as a serious complaint about it.
i'm going to try and play it a bunch with some people (already a thumbs down with apathy, 15-0 sweety its nothin its nothin) see if I can get a broader spectrum of opinions on it. I just think it'd be nice to have another map on the 'frequently' played list, as atm it seems to consist of only dm1, rdm2, ztn2dm3.

u missed to mention 'biggest dawg' on q2dm2 Welkin.
vs purri
http://q2scene.net/ds/index.php?op=dd1&id=563
vs Damiah
http://q2scene.net/ds/index.php?op=dd1&id=1138
+ several demos on q2dm2 on q2scene.net/ds
u will notice in old time on battle q2dm2 was played with BFG due battle mod limitation (no BFG no rail)
but more important info for you is : Welkin is back! He recently started blog on
http://thedredge.wordpress.com/
check it. im sure Welkin have enough q2dm2 demos to satisfy your curiosity
