took a demo of this guy meathook.sodomy. here is a short clip, trying to find the other demo i took. what do you think? high sens and reflexes or botted? the more i watch it the more convinced i am this shot was botted

I've seen stranger things.

Hard to say one way or the other with rails.
One part of that flips thru 360 degrees.  Something a bot just wont do, and something that might be necessary based on amount of mousepad you have left.

Just file this under 'weird' I guess,  but keep yer eyes open

i spose if he was using anticheat i wouldn't have questioned it, but when u see shots like that and they r not using ac, it looks a bit sus

Well I think it definitely couldn't hurt to have meathook.sodomy use anticheat. But I just don't think he cheats.

hes played in koth a few times, hes a pretty solid player, but i dont think he cheats... should be using anticheat, but not everyone does so oh well :/

Someone pulls off a lucky or amazing shot and a demo gets posted here to see if they are legit.
If people look at the demo and say the person is legit, people still say they need to be on AC.

I just think it is getting a little bit crazy.

If it is obvious that a person is botting, ban them or force AC on them.  If they are not botting leave them alone and let them play.

Just my opinion.

i get accused of hacking all the time i dont care either way, i run anticheat by choice, always have...

most every single decent player uses anticheat by choice, all the top tdm players do in both america and europe... so needless to say, if some one shows up ive never heard of and they are kicking some serious ass without using anticheat, im not gonna trust how legit they are...

however in instagib its a bit of a moot point :/ its just instant kill railing, anyone can land a shot, some people are lucky enough they can just swing their mouse around like an idiot pulling the trigger randomly and get kills... its kinda a useless mod to find out if some one is an aimbot, unless they make it very obvious

meathook sodomy doesn't cheat.

A few things to remember when viewing suspect demos from now on:

3rd person view doesn't show quite an accurate representation of the players aiming movements, so it's gonna be slightly harder to spot someone using a bot especially if its set to a lower FOV. It's best to view any suspect shots made by the player with the lowest timescale possible. If they are consistently making shots that appear to begin with the crosshair not directly on the opponent, then snaps to the center of the opponent, then snaps back to where they were aimed before the shot occurred... then maybe they are using a bot. Demos often smooth out the aiming movements , whereas if you were watching the person play the game live from their screen (in the same room with them), their aim might be much more shaky.

Demo's are the communities best evidence, but they don't always prove the case even if the person really IS cheating. Like I said, with a low FOV in insta, it can still be very hard to determine. In these rare cases, you'll have much better evidence of it if they are using a sustained fire weapon. The only problem is actually getting them to join a server with all weapons and then actually catching them making the mistake of using a chaingun or machinegun in the right conditions.

everyone who can use AC should be using it, and if they're observant enough to be a decent q2 player they should be well aware, after connecting to a TS server a few times, that they are or are not using it.


"meathook" has played for years, looked suspect to multiple people over those years, and he's actually run ac before many times.

He has nothing to lose by putting the .dll in the q2 folder, and he's already using a client that claims to be the latest version of r1q2, so it's not like he'd even have to adjust his config.
I'd say the same for anyone (guys like b100d come to mind) who only shows up with ac intermittently.

on the very few occasions it's been ganked by my antivirus, I noticed within 30 seconds of connecting that it wasn't there.
The nag message is pretty big and centered on the screen.


btw, here's my take on the standard list of anti-ac claims:

1. I've never noticed anyone better than I am at q2, claiming in a believable fashion that using ac or an ac client like r1q2 has any real effect on their play. I've also tried pretty much every major client and with the exception of egl (that shit just has horrible mouse problems) none of them feel remarkably different to me.

2. r1ch isn't secretly making a botnet out of your computers with ac. it shows up as a trojan because of the way it's packed so that it can't be easily unpacked and reverse engineered by the first numbnuts polish kid who runs it thru a decompiler.

3. it doesn't cause noticeable lag. having a bad/inconsistent connection or a high ping to the game server does.

4. it doesn't affect movement negatively (some of the best jumpers use it without detriment)

5. you don't have to use r1q2. there are 4 clients it works with and some of them are pretty.

6. Macs can dual boot with ease and nobody bought a legit copy of q2 for the mac in the first place so getting a pc version is the same deal as what they're already doing to play. mac q2 is a 3rd party port.

7. it is extremely rare for a person who claims to be running linux to not also have a pc that they can also use to play a game from 1998.

8. 3.20 is not a superior client to anything other than the older official patch releases.
