Messed Up HUD with Q2advance

I've been using r1q2 for awhile now and it runs pretty smoothly, I would like to however have the q2advance (with the greyscale backgrounds and semi-flourescent player and the mega and health  timers) work properly.  The HUD has all the numbers (Health, Ammo, & Frags) interposed on top of each other. Have played with it successfully and all other functions work except the numbers.  Has anyone else experienced this anomoly and fix it?
           System: Dell Dimension 8400    3.0gig w/HyperThreading
         Vid Card: ATI 800SE 128mg
         RAM      :  512mg
       Monitor  :   Hitachi 19" 
         OS      :  WinXP Home

yeah...  I like that about q2a..  the colored lights off. The grass by the railpond is such a great contrast, level looks alot better.   but my problem is the mouse movement,  it just isnt right and I've been too lazy to mess with it. 

maybe your problem is more than one number set being used, or something weird like that..  I dunno
