I would love to see BFG and camping spots banned from DM and VANILLA servers. But seriously, i do love when vigi spawn kills me.  Makes me want to spawn kill more, I strive for reaching that level of skill. Even with my new 85 ping i still try to spawn kill as much as a I can. Everyone does it at RAILZ as well, including you, Alpha.

I think it's inherent to the game and should be embraced. You can always play lithrailz or other mods that suits your taste. Because that's basically you trying to impose what you THINK is better on the rest.

eh... there is a difference between spawn kills and spawn camping.... :/ everyone will try for spawn kills, stay in an area with some spawns, kill players as they spawn, kill other playres in the area.... 2box4 1v1 is an example of what im talkin about, you have to listen to where they spawn and flick to shoot them on the spawn, you arent gonna sit at one spawn crouched behind it and wait for your kill

its just fucking noobs and retards who spawn camp, crouch down in a corner and aim at a spawn, or crouch down BEHIND a spawn, and just pull the trigger whenever some one spawns, its quite retarded and really annoying... on a bigger map they are much harder to punish cause there is a lot more spawns, and a lot more people, so its not like you can travel across the map and kill them without spawning RIGHT there and getting killed yourself

I plan on playing in this IR500, and we all know i havent been playing again and i bet i still get top 3.  Oh yeah, did i mention that i will also have 10 ping now for all times.  Move to texas and you get the perks. I've played this game long enough where ive owned people at all pings thoughout my q2 existance. 350 vs 50 ping and under id still beat 1v1 and FFA.  As ocho would say... Child please..

its not a matter of playing bad, its as simple as saying if you need to stand behind a spawn pad with a 10 ping to win, it's rather pathetic. whats even more pathetic is i was on railz one time when elysium was on, and vigi was getting beaten so he goes "i need to spawn rape cause elysium is on". now that just says it all.

Ive played vigi and leathaman dozens of times and Ive never seen them actually stand by a spawn pad and kill people.

In fact, I think they actually detest people doing that.

doesnt mean they dont do it in a huge event.. they win by a large margin because they arent out fighting and letting EVERYONE have fun...

i always shoot for a win, but ive NEVER stood behind a spawn pad to get cheap ass kills lol

its not hard to win without cheap tactics... that doesnt mean ass holes wont use those cheap tactics to win faster

you would win rail 1v1s with 350 ping v. lpb, leathaman?... ehh if we were both on a 100+ ping i think i'd take ya man, let alone that crazy stipulation. Ping does mean something.. You rail well, but 10 ping makes you much more consistent and confident. Don't get me wrong, I love less than 20 ping.. it ACTUALLY makes my rail dangerous.

fader he did do it, and i know because i left the ir500 5 mins in cause i couldn't even spawn, so i watched him the whole time. he stood behind one particualr spawn pad through the whole game.

I distinctly remember vigi standing in the 3rd level corner near the megahealth drop on Q2DM8 in the 1st iR500. In such a tight area, it's hard to make someone like him miss with a ping that low. I finally gave up on attacking that spot and picked my own spot to spawn rape. Indeed... most everyone adopted such a tactic after a while when we learned it was effective. That's why DM8 hasn't been played since. I picked the 2nd iR500 map, "Crater Kitchen", hoping to alleviate much of the spawn rape complaints. I figured having a wide open arena would allow everyone a reasonable chance to target any spawn campers from multiple angles. I never really noticed anyone spawn camping, but I'm sure it happened. Depending on the size of the map and the number of players, its just a fact of life that you'll have to deal with.

To be clear, I was NOT suggesting that Vigi should be "banned" from the event. I was suggesting to him that it would be a good show of sportsmanship to consider sitting one out. Some people may decide not to show up if they know he's going to be there again.

Personally, I'd like to see the event last as long as 2 hours. If others feel similarly, that it would add to the fun to make it even more of a test of endurance, perhaps we could even discuss RAISING the frag limit by a few hundred or so. I remember the one that RailWolf organized maybe a year before the 1st iR500. There were probably less than 7 people who stayed for the whole thing, and it lasted a LOOOONG time. I forget what the limit was, perhaps 1000. Any input/opinions RailWolf?

Neither one of us just sit and camp spawns. We may see people and shoot at them but neither of us camp them. Now as far as you being better than me with 100+ping your wouldn't have stood a chance against me back in the day and vig will back me up on my claims.  Him and I have played this game for a while on and off and we were good when there were actually highly talented players still playing when this was still big and ran under tourneyment wiu original clients and all.  And let us not forget that I just moved down here 2 weeks ago so you haven't even played me win 10 ping. Don't even think that I have played since we won the quakecon  tourney and it was prolly a good month before that.  Why don't you guys try practicing instead of bitching.

Fader was not present for the 1st iR500. Neither were you. I was. I saw the demo that either vigi or someone else posted of his play in that event. He was indeed spawn camping. I'm not exactly faulting him for it though, and definitely not bitching. As I said, most people (myself included) by the half way point had started fighting over the few best spawn rape positions. When you have an insta event with 2 and 3 times as many players as spawn points, it becomes inevitable. Since then, Dervish and I have learned the lesson about that and we try to recommend maps that we feel will minimize the chances of that happening.

To further clarify my earlier statements:
I'm not even going consider making it mandatory that Vigilante MUST NOT PLAY. I will not recommend that ANYONE not be allowed to play unless they are cheating. If he wants to play, he is welcome to do so. I've known him for a while now, he seems like a cool guy, and I hope he can understand my reasoning for asking him to consider sitting one out to give someone else a chance. There are no trophies or prizes to be won, it's all for the fun of it. Metaphorically speaking, if the same person keeps winning an annual events much anticipated raffle every single year, eventually people will stop coming and participating. It takes the mystery out of it. Maybe some people are just being childish poor sports, then again maybe not.

why dont you just request custom maps for it with like a hundred spawn pads, multiple levels, multiple huge atriums and such...

i can imagine a good mapper can kick out a pretty large railz map decently fast because you odnt have to worry about item balance and stuff... do a private test before the ir500 event, and if its all good, use that

im sure some mappers in the community would be glad to contribute, and you could get a new map every time to mix things up

We did that for the 2nd one I believe. As far as I know, it worked out well. As I said earlier, I don't recall any rampant spawn rape during that event, but I can't say for sure that it didn't happen at all. If it did, indeed it was definitely minimized by the extra spawn points which were intelligently tweaked by Eternity{FLP} and |iR|Dervish weeks before the event. All in all, I thought that map worked quite well with it's wide open areas and height.

I don't think it would be a good idea to request map makers create custom maps for these events. If they'd like to do so, they can. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they will be approved for the event. Map making is quite a pain in the ass. There might be a lot of people who do it, but very few of them do it WELL. I think it would be a better idea for people to recommend existing maps that Tastyspleen community members already have a decent knowledge of. Once we find a suitable sized map that the majority of players can agree on, then we can fairly easily add good spawn points and tweak any existing ones that might be a problem.
