If the xrazy is to be closed and all of spawngirls maps replaced I would like it to stay a xratrix mod with no traps and a good  mix of flat maps. Nothing is more frustrating then someone throwing a trap from above  or droping one as they run by and before any one says any thing I know traps are part of the game but there are only 3 in the singal player campain

I usually use 1 trap per override, and in a difficult place.
In big maps I use 2 traps.

and I'll keep that way, to avoid the traps and power shield abuses!!

a good idea when deciding item placement for something like the trap, would be to consider how easily camped the area is, how quickly a person can grab it and get away, and if there are many angles from which the person going to grab the item can be effectively attacked.

Because of it's ability to negate all of a players armor and screw up their aim at the same time, the trap is a very powerful weapon and should be placed like you'd place a BFG. If I were to make xatrix overrides, every trap spawn would have at least 3 fairly quick and easy ways to approach the room so that people can uncamp someone easily if they decide to stand on the spawn like Palin tries to do.

It would also take some sort of delay to grab it and get back into the fray (like forcing a crouch on the player to get under something and lose momentum, or a water climb etc), and there would never be more than 2 walls close around it preventing the trap spawn from being spammed heavily from multiple locations.

You should always try to make it easy for a player to deny someone the item from a distance greater than you can throw it, with a bit of aim and a strategy.

some of my favorite moments on tastyspleen xatrix (with long distance trap throw ability) have been trapping someone who was standing on a very high ledge of a map spamming grenades or whatever, who thought they were more or less unreachable, by using the full 5 seconds to throw the trap all the way up to their position

 

p.s. i read that i am also quadz and/or dizzy ... can i choose dizzy?  no offense

Actually, I think Hitme means that it is especially challenging for him to play multi leveled maps because he can't use free look.  He has a condition called Ataxia, which causes his hands to shake so much that he can't control the mouse.  It is also very challenging for him to type, and as such, he usually has very little to say in games. He explained to me that some days are better than others.  Not using free look means he can't look up or down, and that's why he prefers more wide open flat maps.  Hitme is a joy to play, and on rare occassions, he will even go to the effort to lay down a hilarious "smack talk" line!  Given his challenging condition, he's an amazing player.

Thank you ex your right I do like flat maps  because of my ataxia but more to the point if there going to close xrazy why not keep it a xatrix  mod without traps. Frader my key board is bound like that but my ablity to hit the right key is greatly slowed

I agree, Hitme is always friendly and he plays better than i do.

And i have no physical limits.. i just suck at the game, but have a lot of fun playing. :-)

I agree it would be a good thing if 1 or two maps were made that he likes!

Didn't you say that you hate rail maps? Or was that just to spite me?

I think that maps, originaly designed as open flat rail maps, are not good Xatrix maps.

But a flat map doenst need to be a rail map right? As long as there are enough obstacles it can be a fine Xatrix map.

There's nothing wrong with having a flat map without a rail. Quake, Doom 2, Hexen, etc. have plenty of great maps without a rail equivalent. That's why I added in my rotadoom maps on mutant. An attempt to recreate the fun of doom maps using only the quake2 equivalent to each weapon.
