Ive tried getting a pink model, but the color is not in the q2 color palette

Well it depends on which client + renderer you use. If you're using the v3.20 Quake2.exe w/ ref_gl.dll, no. Probably the closest to pink you could get would end up looking orange. But if you're using r1q2.exe w/ ref_r1gl.dll, you can use the PNG format and have any color you want.
