unbelievably pissed off, the cooler arrived today (arctic cooling 7 freezer pro rev 2), open the box, the intel mounting plate has snapped, fine I don't need it bit iffy but whatever. crack my pc open, take off the existing stock hsf (bit i was most worried about), clean the cpu gently and remove the old thermal shite (which was all cracked and nasty, as I thought) and started to try and clip on the retaining brackets from the bag labelled AMD. and they don't fucking clip on, at all. theres nothing on the gigabyte board I have to clip it on to, just a small notch which you can latch the metal bit of a STOCK AMD cooler on to, and only because thats as one unit, these two seperate retaining clips just do not go on, they're limp as fuck with nowhere to attach, screw, clip them on to or anything, it looks as if the frame around the cpu on this gigabyte board is meant to only be used with the stock bastard cooler
ARGH! Waste of £17. oh well at least I was able to renew the thermal paste using the strip on the bottom of the new one, (had to, no paste at home). so I can't return it anyway. guess i've got an aftermarket cooler incase I need to build a new pc anytime soon.

nevermind, i'm wank! fixed it, it turns out it isnt supposed to clip on as such, to get it to fit I needed to pre-screw the brackets on lightly (the manual would have you think otherwise) and slowly tighten each one. as of typing, 34 degrees c on a still pretty hot day, when opening stuff (firefox, winamp, msn) 44 degreesish, it's an improvement for sure, still going high but seems a lot less spiky - the thermal I presume! congratulations to myself on installing my first proper cooler without assistance and without breaking it
now just to address the "Fan1: 970 RPM" issue

DM server is fucked. 2 point blank rockets from spawn and lava damage and player survived? WTF?" Also someone has fucked with the spawn points, every single time no matter how big the map you spawn right in front of the person who killed you last
