Damiah did say "spawn means nothing on dm1", but I don't agree with that..just because he has slick ways of retaking control, doesn't mean the opposition couldn't pressure him better. He has lost to purri a few times like that.

I agree with spawn means nothing on dm1. The only time I think spawn matters is when there is a severe ping advantage and the person with the better ping spawns chain and the other spawns rail. I think sewer spawn isnt the worst. Spawn and ping mean nothing on dm1.

hm... then how is it you managed to beat damiah? no one here is stupid enough to think that damiah would have still lost on a lower ping... in other words, ping does matter

and as far as spawns go... no spawn doesnt mean anything on dm1... IF you severely out aim everyone you play like you do :/ imo dm1 is one of the worst spawn based maps imaginable... against a good player, if they are locking down that mh room and you spawn sewer or outside over and over, what are you supposed to do? leave sewer either direction and your fucked.... though sewer is still better than spawning outside where your only options are head straight for your opponent and hope that they dont decide to attack you, go for rail which ensures your death against a decent opponent, or go into the sewer which is just as stupid and just as much of a death trap

Havn't read back too far,  but perhaps he meant FIRST spawn. 

You can take any first spawn on dm1 and make something happen.  Even sewer.

Of course I meant first spawn.

I'm talking about circumstantial stuff... The combination of spawns 2 duelers could get and their decisions where to go after vary greatly.... if this chain of events facilitates a good, extremely campy player with 9 ping to have 100a/MH and camp megaroom with 300b cg, rockets, and rail, and NEVER leave the megaroom(meaning no cg or rg for you). you are at a big disadvantage at the highest level of play in this situation.

Not to mention that on dm1 you can run away and hide in almost any situation, repeatedly... if someone abuses this and makes it a part of their game(i.e. frustrating your opponent by running away indefinitely until he does something half-way dumb so you can just go back to camping the megaroom stacked with items and 9 ping) it makes it an UNeven playing field.

I never think excuses are legit... I just consider approaching someone who is stacked and camping megaroom with a near lan ping is an extreme case. I've seen the best in NA lose several like this..

Personally, I take a lot of risks when I'm not in control. So i get reaaaally frustrated if something like that happens and end up trying something like this: http://tastyspleen.net/quake/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=6651.0;id=4837

It's been a long while since I made a key gripped video of q2.   Can someone please explain to me an easy way of creating an avi file from a q2 client and demo, and then adding a voice over (with free software)?

Also if the demo is recorded with a special command, can I switch back and forth between players somehow after the demo is recorded?  I am willing to start this, and then people can post errors or whatever, then it can be redone, or someone else can make the videos. But since they do not exist, I would like to start them :).

use xfire to record gameplay straight to avi, voice over can be by done by windows movie maker  :rockon:

has to be a MVD recorded on the server i believe... i could be mistaken though

Going back and forth between players,  best done while watching.   Even if you recam to switch,  alot of time items/players will not be rendered from the pov of the NOT recording player.   There is a server command that records a demo and includes every players pov,  dunno how to split it though,  and would need done from server console.

BUT  you could do something if you had demos from both players,  would just need pieced together.

I have some demos watching people, where I go back and forth depending on who I figure would have control after the next encounter.

if your trying to show meta game from demos, it might be better to do a single view demo :) and tell what the other person is doing from that single pov... and how you know they are doing that, and what the person whos pov your watching will react to that

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.  Certainly having the option of showing both players POV is good thing, and you can't do that from current demos on the site.
