Where do i report cheaters that get on the tastyspleen servers?  Many people may not realize it, but probably 15% of people accessing the servers do cheat in one form or another.  This is not a post about me being mad because people killed me, but it is the manner in which they kill people, and the situations revolving around them.  Ultimately, I would like the server admin to review persons suspected of cheating by watching them during gameplay, or reviewing the logs.  If there is some way to make a demo of their gameplay from spectator mode, please tell me. This can be further proof to show who is and isn't cheating.  Cheating to gain frags or be '#1' is very unethical and ultimately makes gameplay very frustrating, most people just play along side these cheaters without saying a thing, but others leave the server, making the ratio of cheaters over legitimate players grow more and more.  A few always ruins it for the many, in any situation.

Yes, we often review demos of suspected cheaters.  Sometimes they end up on the wall of shame:

Please note though that some members of our community have been playing q2 for seven years... and are exceptionally good.  I only mention that because you asked how to record a demo in spectator mode... leading me to wonder if you might be relatively new to q2, and not completely familiar with the range of skills you're likely to encounter.  (Check out some of the demos in the pro tourney section, if you haven't yet.)  That said, we take actual instances of cheating on our servers seriously, and ban players when we have proof.

To record a demo in spectator mode, just type "record mydemo" ... and "stop" when you're finished.  On the tourney servers, you can record an in-eyes demo from spectator, which is preferred for spotting cheats.  On the other servers you have to settle for a behind-the-player view.

Do not assume that the admins dont know what is going on in the servers.  The admins do a great job of watching the server with a close eye. 

The best things to do are #1 record a demo from the suspected cheaters perspective, and #2 perhaps say ONE TIME what your feelings are and the admins can come and look.  Do not bother everyone by calling them a cheater time after time after time.  Just record a demo and place it for judgement.  I think the chances are far better that the player is just very skilled.

i know when new to the game, it is next to impossible to understand how accurate and fast experienced players can become.

i agree with gator here, most of the "good" players that play really are good
just be careful, you cant just go around telling people that everyone cheats on the servers
everyone will think your a n00b and think you got that toxic monkey type thing going

to play a demo I just go in console map demoname.dm2

I use demoplayer, you just double-click on the .dm2 file and it plays the demo. You can fast-forward and shit, it's pretty cool. You can download it from the link below.

So you can record a demo whenever you want? So im playin online and i hit /record demo    and it records. Then i hit stop to stop. Where is this file stored?  So i then make a folder called "demos" in my baseq2 folder and i put the file in there, then i hit demoname.dm2, and it just plays it?

Yeah, In console type record demo (substitute demo for the name you want like harryhoodcheats or something) in windows versions of q2 it usually auto creates the demo directory under the baseq2 directory, if it doesnt then add a directory named demos under baseq2 and it will place them there by default. To play them type (in console again) demomap demonamefrom earlier.dm2 and it will load it up and you can watch it.

You stop the recording session by typing stop (in console).
