Aww thanks for all the support on my problem :-). Im sorry I didnt get the chance to state what my problem is. I am quite busy and I was workign tonight hehe. Alright I took a screen shot of what it does everytime I try to install quake2.

no other programs have problems installing from the cd-rom?
any large scratches on your cd? i remember i got errors after mine got scratched up pretty bad

Yikes... CD read-error, eh?

Have you already tried cleaning it? Sometimes scuffs can be rubbed out (as opposed to scratches...)

Another thing that works for me sometimes, is copying a CD at low-speed with Nero... I purchased Half-Life2 recently, and the 3rd disk was badly scrached and wouldn't install. But I did a slow 4x copy of the CD with Nero, and managed to get useful copy.

Or get GrandePerruque to burn the .pak files on a new CD for you. You don't need to actually "install" quake2, you just need the files...

Alright thanks for the tips. The thing is my mom's finance has my other hard drive, with all my stuff on it.... my quake2 folder, my picture, my documents.... basically everything i had on that before. He's going to burn it on a dvd and try to transfer everything on my new hard drive. Its funny how everything else in my machine is new but I kept the same hard drive for like ... 6-7 years haha.

Oh and another thing would be that. Im moving to my father's house sunday night. My boyfriend is going to help me move my stuff... which means 3 trips just my clothes haha jk

I may be late on this but why dont you just copy/paste the pac0.pac file from your cd to your quakeII folder...just make a quake2 folder and then try that...could save a bunch of time since you may still be able to do it outside the quake2 installer even though the installer dosent seem to want to move em. O...and there is a possibility that drhor still has the pac0.pac file on his ftp Mad...

Do you get exactly the same error?

If so, how about just copying the files off the CD from windows, and not using the "installer" program?

Just put the quake2.exe, ref_gl.dll, and ref_soft.dll in a Quake2 folder, and then put the gamex86.dll and the .pak files into Quake2\baseq2.
