if someone is building turbines, rockets, etc., they no doubt have sophsiticated software just to design each system and the sub systems.  for example the controls, etc.  I'm just not sure what you are trying to do, you always have some crazy ideas, but in reality, there are teams of people with millions (billions) of dollars, working on these things..

I can understand doing something for fun, but why do you always think you are coming up with the next big thing.   take for instance an air craft carrier, every single thing you could imagine can be monitored and controlled from a single location, what are you going to offer them?

On the other hand, didn't you luck out on the DNA dice roll and wind up with a strong aptitude for math?

And - better circumstances?  Sounds like you're practically living rent-free!  You could enroll in a local community college and get yourself a two-year AS degree.  You might be able to make some cash on the side offering your services as a math tutor.  And if you plan ahead, paying attention which universities accept transfer credits from the community college, you can switch over to a university and finish a bachelor of science degree in another two years.

Actually, Apollo was designed with pencil and paper, there were no such things as CAD or CADCAM at the time. My first year in college, 1973, four years after Apollo 11 landed on the moon, I had a 12 inch slide rule and a four-function calculator with nixie tube display. By 1974 if you didn't have a pocket scientific calculator like the TI or HP45 you were lost in the dust.

The NC programs used to manufacture the rocket parts were written in APT/AC, a program designed to translate tool path specifications into the code needed by the mills to cut the surfaces. Those mills use 8-channel punched paper tapes up to 700 feet long to cut those shapes and contours. It wasn't until the mid-80's that CNC became common and APT/AC became APT/360 for the IBM 360 mainframes, a monochrome, non-graphical system. Computers that were made possible by the effort of space program itself.

Today, aircraft and complex parts are designed in CATIA, a graphical system for creating complex entities. The designs are passed from engineering drawings (in CATIA) up to manufacturing and modeling designs. The CNC part programs are translated from CATIA into G-code (CNC language) automatically based on the geometry that is based in the original engineering, often without direct knowledge of the CNC programmer about why the computer made the decisions it made about how the part program should be run.

The Boeing 777 and the B-2, the F-22 and JSF were all designed in CATIA. This is why many of these illustrations have so much detail. The renderings are done from the basic detail drawings from the original CAE data.
