Came across this on the internet, apparently people drilling in siberia claim to have drilled into hell...ya I know how it sounds, read:

Religiously speaking, I don't think "HELL" is a place of fire. I think somewhere down the line of the bible, men added that YOU'RE GOING TO BURN ETERNALLY IN FIREY HELL! . I think hell is a place where God is not there. A dark, dead, lonely place. Which is why its called hell to begin with. Which is why I don't think these people found hell LOL. If hell is a place of fire, I would be very disappointed in GOD to make hell so simple. I'm sure that is not the case

Religiously speaking, I don't think "HELL" is a place of fire. I think somewhere down the line of the bible, men added that YOU'RE GOING TO BURN ETERNALLY IN FIREY HELL! . Hell has been burning since the beginning of Time (to put it simply) and it will burn eternally....if you want to have a vague idea of hell...well think of the vocalno's lava and multiply the hotness by seven....and i have not touch on the issue of the lava itself yet

I think Hell is a man made idea, but not in the same sense that you do. If you'd bother to read the Holy Bible thoroughly, it describes it pretty plainly as a "Lake of Fire", "a lake burning with fire and brimstone", and a place of "weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth" in addition to being an eternal separation from God as you said.

 That's my point though. I think somewhere down the line, men added that whole lake of fire mumbo jumbo. I don't believe hell is anything fire. And I have read it during a bible study back in High School. Which is when that whole flaming argument took place with the priest

If I am correct, the Old Testament refers to Hell under different names at different times. One name used in particular was the same name of a place on the outskirts of a city where they would burn refuse. I don't think any part of the Old Testament explicitly describes Hell the same way that the New Testament does in the Revelation of St. John, which is where those earlier quotes I made came from.

From what I see, if you are a practicing Christian, obviously you would not disregard the words of the New Testament like the Orthodox Jews do, and should accept such descriptions as the word of God. You could claim that men who translated the New Testament into English added that, but given that we can also study the original text from the source documents, it is apparent that they did not add their own ideas, but attempted to translate it into equivalent English words as closely as possible.

HOWEVER...

You could still find a personal debate as to whether or not some of the books that they excluded should have been deemed canonized and included in the New Testament.

Maybe the devil wanted them left out for a reason.

Personally, I find the idea that God himself could deem certain man-written works to be his own word to be ludicrous. If he could work miracles through Jesus Christ, cause the red sea to part through Moses,... then... maybe. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't have made the book himself and then given it to one man to give out to the people. The Mormons had a good idea there. It all seems like mythological hogwash that just hasn't died off yet. Why should I be more inclined to believe in Yahweh and Jesus Christ than the gods of the ancient Egyptians? They both make equally illogical, unnatural, and ridiculous claims about the origins of mankind and the so-called afterlife.
