well not sure what's up with this, although it looks like maybe there is packet loss in the NTT network.  NTT should be able to fix that, and I don't want to give any misinformation, but ThePlanet should probably work with NTT to fix the network.  It may not really be a normal request to take NTT out of the equation for a /24 (some IPs in that network are on other servers), I'm not sure what they would do, but even if they were aggregating the routes, and didn't have any route-maps, routing based on the source IP, I'd imagine with the equipment it'd be possible although not a normal request, and may require a bit of work.

Here's how you avoid NTT:
don't route NTT > ThePlanet, your servers
/24 you're in - advertise in BGP to NTT with extra AS'es in the AS-PATH field, the most specific route is used in routing tables and that's your network, other routers install the routes learned from other upstreams, less AS'es in the field..  Or deaggreate the routes if necessary and don't advertise that /24. This way when choosing a route along the client to server path, you choose other upstreams of ThePlanet, avoiding NTT to tastyspleen.

don't route ThePlanet your servers >> NTT
For going back out upstream at ThePlanet, apply a route-map at the borders, and route based on the source network out only certain providers via default routes.  It's an unusual request and I'm not sure if they'd fullfill it, but I'd bet the equipment would do it just fine.  Anyways the provider that's dropping the packets should hopefully be able to resolve the issue.

I advise posting the text of the traceroutes from the cmd window, not the images. The text is easier to copy.
Use a nice big cmd.exe window, resize it to be nice and wide so it gets all the columns without wrapping.

Here's how you do it:

Open the cmd window. Do a cd \ to get a root directory prompt.
Do tracert 74.54.186.226

Select the top left corner of the text you want to copy with your mouse cursor and expand the selection box to capture all the text.
Once you have selected it, hit the Enter key to copy it to the clipboard.

Post a reply in this forum and use ctrl-V to paste the clipboarded text:

C:\>tracert 74.54.186.226

A time of day stamp would be nice to have as part of the traceroute. Type now at the command prompt to get local date and time if you have installed the Windows Resource Kit Tools.

can you guys try pathping or the WinMRT software?  It creates better statistics because there is a problem of 4-8 percent loss, and traceroute sends only one packet.  Also there is probably going to be loss on many circuits from various places, but the consistent loss of 4-8 percent through NTT seems to be the issue.

pathping comes with windows so if the winmrt software isn't working, just go to the command prompt and type:
pathping ipaddress

replacing ip address  with the server ip..

if there are no replies along the path, it might not calculate further, which is probably not the best way to go about it.  usually your local router might filter thet raffic so it would break pathping, you could allow icmp and it would work.

FYI:

Quote
Scheduled Maintenance

On June 6, 2010, between 12:00AM and 05:00AM CDT, our Network Engineering team will be performing maintenance on one of The Planet's transit provider links in Dallas. Since there are multiple providers, service disruption is not expected, however, there may be the possiblity of higher than normal latency while routes shift onto another provider and/or link.

Probably not related to the packetloss, but.. anyway...

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
