Hmmm,   doesn't look right.  Like the gl_modulate 99 affected the whole map instead of just the models.

Heres what I was referencing to,  some work by Dervish on getting q2 looking pretty.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if people did. These textures still have a long way to go before looking properly good. I want to keep the old traditional Quake 2 look but add extra elements to give it the modern feel. I keep looking to Q3 and Q4's Edge for inspiration. With the right coding/rendering plus remastered maps I think it'll look far better.

great. now if tastyspleen had a qlive server it can be hosted on there :-) :P i not sure how this works though. is this a submission to qlive for them to add it to the rotation? i don't know how to play custom maps on qlive.

update i tried making a baseq3 folder in my quakelive folder. i can't find my documents and settings folder there could be a duplicate quakelive folder. usually there are alot more files in a game folder this qlive folder has 3 files. it's probably not the main folder.

its different for vista/7/xp/linux but you just do some digging around or get help from google and you should find it, has somethin to do with changing it from read only and putting the map there then starting up a practice round and voting the map... idk :) just google it, theres tons of guides, wont work online though :(

You can't play custom maps online, this is just a gameplay test for use against bots, to share ideas about changes you think should be implemented. After this phase I will work on aesthetics, then refine the gameplay again, then do a few more overall refinements, then release it for beta testing for further changes and bug fixes. Only after all of that will I start perstering the living shit out of anyone and everyone in id Software to implement this map into QL.

There should already be a baseq3 folder in your quakelive folder :/ That's the folder all the game content is loaded from. What operating system are you using? The location of QL is:

            In Windows XP:

            -           %userprofile%\Application Data\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3\

 

            In Windows Vista:

            -           %appdata%\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3\

 

            In Windows 7:

            -           I haven't got a fucking clue :/ Possibly the same as Vista?

 

            In GNU/Linux:

-   ~/.quakelive/quakelive/home/baseq3/

BTW read the readme file, setting the pk3 file as read only is important, otherwise QL will randomly decide to delete it.

Even though I would never want to see or play Q2 on QL, I have to say you're doing an amazing job with these redone textures!

Thanks  :rockon: there's still plenty of room for improvement with the textures anyway. I want to take some high quality photography and integrate it into my textures to make them more realistic. Then I have to refine the edging and add more detailing such as making some textures look physically 'damaged' etc. which will help it look more realistic and less photoshopped.

It does actually play well in QL. It might not have double jumping that Q2 enthusiasts love, but with 3 jumps you can still get to the mega.

I gave Q2XP a good try the other day and here's what I came up with...



Some of the Q2XP effects are strange, like the light bloom effects and weapon effects, but the map lighting changes are brilliant!

Q2XP is meant to have bump mapping capabilities… anyone know how to use it?
