Hello

I developed a small Dashboard Widget for Mac OS X. It uses the unix command line utility qstat to display information about 5 game servers of your choice. Its very nice if you want to keep track of whats going on on your favorite servers.

[Update] New version
- should now work on PPC systems (included universal binary of qstat)
- bugfix joining servers

This is the first release and in case there are any Mac users here I would really appreciate some feedback.

Looks really cool, wonder if it's possible to do the same thing for windows 7 desktop gadgets/widgets. nice work

Looks like a nice tool.
Your documentation states qstat is bundled with the widget but there is no binary in the dmg.
The widget crashes the dashboard process less than 2 seconds after the dashboard is invoked.

So, as a mac user, what client do you play q2 with anyway? I'd like to have a good answer for people with macs wanting to get back into q2, rather than "uh.... download the demo?"

Hello everyone,

The qstat binary is inside the .wdgt file (right click, show package contents). I now put online a new version with universal qstat binary (updated link in first post). I hope this fixes the crash? Which OS X Version do you use? PPC or Intel?

I use the Q2 Macintosh port from fruits of dojo: http://www.fruitz-of-dojo.de
Its the only one I know of. Its okay to play online but it doesn't have any additions - its an 1:1 port of Quake 2 v 3.21.

I use the Fruitz of Dojo client that SquiSHeR cited. Not very often, since I always play the game from my PC but I do tests with the iMac.

SquiSHeR, my system is Intel and OS X 10.4 Tiger. I double clicked the wdgt file to get it to install, perhaps this is not the right method. I drag-dropped the qstat binary to my home dir and executing it from a shell yields "Bad CPU type in executable" Info says "UNIX executable". Do you have the qstat source and can make it a UB? I don't know why it won't run as either PPC or x86 on my system.

Yes, this new version still crashes the dashboard. I will try your new, new version.

LAst time I joined the vanilla server was months ago, so I wonder who it was you saw on that server.

I built a MacPorts version of qstat with good advice from SquiSHeR and now the widget doesn't crash on my OS X Tiger system (danka SquiSHeR) but it doesn't display the server info in the widget. I checked the packets are arriving at my server and the server is sending the reply but for some strange reason the widget is not seeing them. Next step is to sniff the packets on the iMac to see that the application is getting them. Backward compatibility is always fun.

But thank you for reporting! Nice to know I'm not the only one using this nick.

@QwazyWabbit: Thank you very much for all your efforts. As soon as I'm able to set up a 10.4 testing environment on VirtualBox I will fix this issue. But maybe you are quicker?
