Went around the city on Saturday morning.

My phone died on me after the last picture so I couldn't take shots of the amazing street performers around town.

1) Obligatory 10am Granville Island Pale Ale )the brewery is ~30meters from where this was taken.
2) The Olympic Flame.
3) The Olypmic Flame where you can see the ridiculous chainlink fence they placed around it. During the night they finally cut it for pictures and used this pretty cool no-glare plexiglass (I didn't reflect anything)
4) Robson Square. The rink beneath Robson Street has been closed for years and they finally brought it back. I would skate there when I was a little kid. Zip Lines running over head (if you didn't mind the 2 hour line up for it.

I remember when the games came to Atlanta back in 1996. Despite the bombing in Centennial Park, it was the safest the city has ever been. Did wonders for cleaning up the midtown Atlanta area with the construction of the park where there used to be a ghetto, and all the added police. Enjoy it, it's more than likely a once in a lifetime thing. I doubt the Olympics will ever come back to Atlanta while I'm still above dirt. Me and my folks went to see Team USA take on some other country in baseball. The US kicked the living shit out of them too, so much that they called a mercy rule in the 2nd or 3rd inning and ended the game early. My dad took probably 5 or 6 rolls of film, but never got them developed like the procrastinator that he is. I doubt they'd come out worth a shit if he did take them to be developed.

I'm a little stunned at how many medals the US has accumulated so far. 1st place with a total of 23 medals... and it's only half way over.

Germany is in 2nd with 14 I think, which also surprises me. I figured they'd be somewhere farther back in the pack, definitely didn't expect them to be ahead of Norway and Sweden.

Hahahaha! Too funny. I thought of that same thing when I saw that structure.

There is some Olympic stuff going on in my backyard of Richmond. Mostly just a bunch of drunk Dutch people having a blast. Lots of orange color everywhere, busses and skytrains packed to the teeth.

The Salvation army was giving out free hot chocolate in the center of the city. It was a really nice gesture. People just being nice and enjoying the spirit of the games together.

That's kinda how it was in Atlanta back in 96. It was almost unnerving how nice it was to walk the streets of downtown Atlanta without the need for eyes in the back of your head to watch for muggers. It was like Christmas time back in the 40's... minus the whites only water fountains, I guess.

My wife loves to buy me FOX hats and I like to wear 'em. Although that particular hat I usually find a little gaudy.

Ha, my wife has strictly prohibited me from wearing any more hats. Ever since I first played quake 2 with some local friends (more specifically the n64 version) I enjoyed the Grenade Launcher as my favorite weapon. We affectionately named it the Spammer. So I wore a SPAM hat all through highschool and partway through college. I have several SPAM hats, shirts, a watch, and even a SPAM onsie for newborns. It helps to have a brother-in-law that works for Hormel.

Above the spam hat, I also have a large collection of hats that I would wear depending on the occasion. Straw hats, novelty safari hats, a ridiculously large sombrero, about 20 baseball caps ranging from Wayne's World to Duff Beer... Well she decided that she wouldn't be seen in public with someone wearing those hats, so they have all been retired. I still wear my obnoxiously yellow tie dyed SPAM shirt all of the time. Damn that thing is comfortable.

Favourite shirts are the best. They just get butter soft over time and it becomes more than what's o the front of it. It becomes the memories enjoyed with it.

I love how women try to change guys. My wife always jokes about how all of my stuff that doesn't match with her idea of what I should wear ends up in the trash. Funny I use the same thing when I delete her smut from the PVR. I chucked the last two seasons of Gossip Girl, all of the ANTM, and all that other "reality" programming and crap shows because it didn't match with what I wanted to watch.

I'm within inches of setting up the parental controls to block any title with "dancing" "dance" and/or "idol" in the title from being recorded or viewed on our dvr.

At least she doesn't watch 'The Hills' tho.. *shudder*
