Hmm.  q2admin is pretty unreliable in most areas of its cheat detection.  And any player can generate that impulse command if they want to, right in their console, without a bot being loaded.

That said, it is kind of strange.

What would that do in terms of Quake1? I've seen messages before where q2admin displayed something like "Player generated an impulse 9", which I think is the Quake1 command equal to Quake2's give all command.

I dunno exactly how high impulses were used by vanilla q1,  but 171 was way beyond it.

A mod would use higher impulses though,  like a ctf mod I played had impulse 97/98 for hook and unhook.

Hmm. q2admin es muy poco fiable en la mayoría de las áreas de su trampa de detección. Y cualquier jugador puede generar que el mando de impulso, si quieren, a la derecha en su consola, sin un bot que se está cargando.

Dicho esto, es un poco extraño.

technically anyone can generate an impulse, and there have been mods that used impulse commands to do stuff..

I hadn't looked into these until at one point, KrenZ was being a total dickweed and intentionally putting in "impulse 1" in his console, on my server, just so it looked like he was doing something insidious.


that specific impulse was one that was used to toggle thru an options menu for an old proxy style aimbot, and afaik has never been used for anything else in q2..

here's what the q2admin docs had to say on the subject:

from the condump it seems he was getting ownt, but generating an impulse in the first place is pretty suspicious since you have to either have it bound to something or put it in the console manually, and accidentally generating one known to be used to control a known aimbot just seems pretty improbable.
