PLEASE HELP! R1Q2 keeps crashing

I have sort of the same trouble as sinner but mine crashes every time the server changes maps. All so in the video mode r1gl it is very dark on most maps but other player and items are easy to see but if a player uses a grenade it lags .

RE: R1Q2 crashing at map changes:
Try deleting the file anticheat.dll in your \quake2\ folder.
RE: Dark maps:
Do you still have the files r1gl.cfg and autoexec.cfg that I sent you in your \quake2\baseq2\ folder?
If so, this is what you should do:
Open r1gl.cfg (right click the file, choose open with > wordpad).
Now, in this file, under the Video Settings, you must locate and change the values of the following lines (they're located near the end of the file):
set gl_modulate
"20"
set intensity
"3"
set vid_gamma
"0.9"
Save the changes (CTRL+S), close wordpad.
Now, as if it wasn't complicated enough, open the file \quake2\baseq2\autoexec.cfg with wordpad and do the following:
Clear the file: Select everything (CTRL+A), press delete.
Just add this line:
set vid_ref "r1gl"
Save, close wordpad. Your file autoexec.cfg should now only contain that one line above.
RE: grenades slowing down the game:
Place the attached file (pak14.pak) in your \quake2\baseq2\ folder. No explosions will be displayed anymore, saving precious resources, which hopefully will fix that problem.

Open r1gl.cfg with wordpad and add this line at the end of the file:
set gl_coloredlightmaps "0.8"
Save, close, play!
Should make the game appear less orange!
If you're not happy with the results, play around with the value of gl_coloredlightmaps in that file. 0 = grayscale / 1 = full colors.

Quake II is not 27 years old. I refuse to accept THAT much time has gone by.
