The NFL 2009 season thread
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:46:31 PM »
Where are the REAL football fans? Fuck "soccer", I don't care what your country calls it, it isn't a real sport unless there is a reasonable danger of becoming paralyzed involved in it.

Anybody else catch the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders game? I caught the replay of it on the NFL network tonight. HOLY SHIT. I know it's only the pre-season, but come on! I sure as hell hope Dallas gets their shit together before the season starts. They're playing Tennessee tomorrow night, hopefully they get their shit together. This loss was seemingly a purposeful team effort to accomplish that goal. They're lined up with probably less than 10 yards to go to the endzone when they hike it right the fuck over the quarterbacks head. Then they miss one of the shortest distanced field goals you could ever hope to have. The quarterback bounces a pass off someones head at damn near point blank range. On a kickoff return, a receiver fumbles it out of his fingers when he's right under it, and one of the Oakland players manages to grab it up and start their drive at about the 15 or 20 yard line. Just one fuck up right after the other. It was downright painful to watch. Final score was 10 to 31. If this is any indication of how Dallas is going to play this season,... the coaches better stock up on throat lozenges, because there's going to be an awful lot of screaming going on in the locker room. Sure, Oakland played a great game, but it only helps when their opponents are incompetent.

Apparently Michael Vick has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, although he won't be completely reinstated and playing until about the 6th week, at which point we may see him in action against Oakland. I was 99% sure that Atlanta wasn't going to take him back with all the shitty publicity he's received around here. That certainly would cause nothing but a gigantic animal rights protest at every home game. It'll be interesting to see exactly how he'll be received at ANY appearance. Hopefully all his impending fines and debt will encourage him to play like he used to before he decided to milk his contract with Atlanta after a minor injury.

Brett Favre out of "retirement" and now with the Vikings. Any bets on how many games he plays before getting his ass drilled and put permanently out of commission?

I noticed tonight... they sure as hell are throwing a lot of flags. Christ, it seemed like more of the half of the plays were flagged for some little infraction. It's nothing like the old days. They've instated so many weird ass rules now that it's hard to do anything without breaking one of them. On one play, Oakland was flagged for an illegal formation, something like having more than two men acting as guards or picks for a receiver to run a slant. I don't even know, man. It's getting pretty ridiculous though. You used to could have a nice little drinking game involved with it, do a shot every time they throw a flag. If you were to do that these days, you'd be in serious need of medical attention after the first quarter alone.

brett favre is a piece of garbage

Any bets on how many games he plays before getting his ass drilled and put permanently out of commission?

That's what he wants to happen, I swear... so he can be some kinda martyr.

It would be better if he just makes a complete fool of himself AGAIN.

Yeah, I don't expect too much out of Favre this year. I haven't seen anything myself yet, nor have I heard much coming from anyone out of the camp. I believe they're taking on Kasas City tonight, but who knows if they're actually going to play him at all.

I watched the Eagles and Colts game last night. I gotta tell ya, Peyton Manning was fucking ON. He was throwing some damn good miraculous passes. They only played him in the first quarter though, I guess they knew what he was capable of wanted to take an early lead, which they did. The game stayed at 7 to 23 for the longest time until the last 1 minute of the 4th quarter when Philadelphia played their rookie QB DiMichele, a pretty small guy, but he held up fairly well and even managed to get one last TD in before the end of the game. Anyway, I think as long as the line can keep Manning in the clear like they seemed to be doing for the most part, the Colts will have a pretty good shot at going all the way.

If I were Donovan McNabb, I'd be pissed right now. I'd just quit fucking doing interviews. They interviewed him on the sidelines last night, and they spent more time talking about Michael Vick than him or anyone else. From what he said, and from what everyone else has ALREADY said MANY times, Vick really isn't going to be playing that large of a role. Nevertheless, he may end up getting played by one of the last 2 pre-season games. From the looks of the performance of the offensive line, I'm hoping they play just the same... you know, make a few mistakes, leave a few gaps, and allow him to get repeatedly blindsided.

I also watched the replay of the Bengals and Patriots game last night. Was pretty interesting to see Cincinnati WR Chad Ochocinco play the role of the kicker. Did a pretty good job of it too.

8pm tonight I have the choice of either watching Atlanta vs St. Louis or Tennessee vs Dallas. I love nothing more than to watch the Cowboys get raped, but from how horrible they played against Oakland last week, I'm guessing that one isn't going to be too interesting to watch. Last weeks Atlanta game wasn't too bad, when Detroit managed to come back in 4th and edge them out by only 1 point. I'm sure I'll end up watching the Atlanta game.

...and 20 bucks says Dallas gets bitchslapped by a 20 point spread. ;D

As far as New Orleans goes... Yeah, I'll root for them... until they play Atlanta. ;) But I honestly don't expect Atlanta to be able to handle them. But then again, that's not until the 2nd week in December, and injuries are always a factor, so who knows.

Can't wait for the new season. Anyone with some gutsy predictions? I'm saying the (2008) 13-3 Titans don't even make the playoffs. Detroit will get 6 wins. KC will still do bad even with Cassel...No idea how well the Vikings will do with Favre, can't wait to watch though.

Go Steelers!!!

Well, I was a little surprised at how Dallas handled the Titans tonight. I was expecting them to get clobbered, but Dallas actually pulled it off. THEY were the ones who ended up beating Tennessee by 20 points, fuck me sideways! I owe somebody 20 bucks I guess. :D

I'm expecting Atlanta to do pretty good this year. They just acquired TE Tony Gonzalez from Kansas City, not to mention RB Michael Turner who seems to be damn near unstoppable so far. They weren't quite as on top of their defense game as they rotated out to their other teams later in the game, but hopefully they'll get all the kinks worked out come regular season time.

I haven't watched the game yet, but from what I've read online, Favre did pretty shitty in his first appearance with the Vikings tonight, only one completion out of 8 passes or something.

I haven't really kept up with the NFL in the past couple of years, so I really don't know much about any of teams anymore. They've drafted so many new guys out of college and traded people all over the place that none of them look the same anymore. But as soon as I was channel surfing the other week and stopped on one of the preseason games, I was like FUCK YEAH. I had just completely forgotten that football season was starting with all the shit going on around here. I'm probably gonna make a decent effort to veg out on the couch watching as much of it as I can this year. I may even quit wasting my money playing keno at the bar and start putting it on games instead, even though as I mentioned I don't know much about the teams this year. I guess that's why I'm trying to watch all the preseason games, to get a better idea of who's who, who's where, and what to expect later on. I really don't get all that much into college football. There's so many damn teams and players to keep up with that it becomes dizzying and impossible. The NFL for the most part is the best of the best and games tend be more fun to watch. A hell of a lot more fun than watching the Dawgs beat the piss out of Vanderbilt every year. ;) If the Dawgs are on and there's nothing else worth watching, I may tune in.

The Redskins beat your Steelers DaHang. I thought they might've had enough time at the end to get one more TD, but Washington was pretty adamant in their efforts to stop them. Pittsburgh managed to intercept a near TD pass in the end zone, but Washington sacked the living shit out of the QB on one of the last 2 downs. They were on his ass like stink on shit and his line just folded up like a VW Beetle getting hit by garbage truck.

Holy shit. If you missed tonights San Diego at Atlanta game, you missed an awesome comeback. San Diego pulled ahead of Atlanta during the second quarter and retained their lead throughout the 3rd and 4th quarters, mostly because Atlanta couldn't wake the fuck up and stop the 3rd down conversions that the Chargers kept consistently making on longer passes. But Atlanta finally made one final furious drive towards the red zone in the last minute and a half. With about 15 seconds left on the clock, Atlanta QB Redman made a 4th & Goal completion into the end zone for a TD to bring the score from 20-24 to 26-24 and finally 27-24 with the extra point. God damn, I love it when a team makes a miraculous comeback with mere seconds left on the clock, and I love it even more when it's my Falcons. :bananaw00t: One stupid official damn near cost us the game too. San Diego did a handoff and the runner barged through the defensive line, leaping over the guy who was supposed to be plugging up that part of the line. One of the Atlanta cornerbacks could've hit him from the side to stop him right after crossing the line, but the dumbass official was standing right in the way with his thumb up his ass. He ended up shoving the official a little bit, although I was hoping he would've hit him full force and sent him flying for great justice. The San Diego runner, Gartrell Johnson, all because that one damn official stood there like a deer in headlights, end up running it for 42 yards, and almost looked like he was going to make it all the way, but luckily Atlanta is a little faster and brought him down about 25 yards shy of the TD.

Anyway, great game all around. If you didn't get to watch it, I'd highly recommend catching the replay of it if they happen to run it on NFL Network.

Looks like New Orleans is going to be one of the, if not THE, toughest teams this year. They end up kicking Oaklands ass all over the field today for a final of 45 to 7. Just a cruel brutal beating.

Re: The NFL 2009 season thread

Well i just skimmed through this thread very briefly. Let us not forget this is the preseason. No teams are going to be playing 100 percent at any givining point during. Sure there are the 1st 2nd quarters when the frontliners do thier thing but it never lasts.. Who wants thier star players injured before the season starts, not to mention the desire to see what the newbies are capable of. This preseason alone has lead to a few injuries.. Tom Brady, boldin, t.o. ... just to name a few. Mostly minor. Anyways i love football season b/c i love to gamble. If brady stays healthy then he's gonna bring me tons of money like he did a couple seasons ago. I'm in a few fantasy teams as well... anyone else?

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
