I LOVED this film it's one of my favourites now, it's a little girly really cause the theme is hairdressing but it truly was a fantastic watch and a perfect blend of being funny, touching and satisfying to watch at once. plus alan rickman ftw.

Beyond The Gates - 10/10

Based on a true story about a catholic priest who runs a school in Rowanda when the Hutu stage a coup. The Hutu took to the streets in roving militias with machetes and other crude tools in an attempt to massacre every last Tutsi in Rowanda. The UN peacekeepers assigned to the area never did jack shit to stop it. They allowed the genocide to take place right under their noses because they were too chickenshit to get too deeply involved in a conflict in that poor of a region. Starring John Hurt, and a great performance by him as always.

Day of the Dead - 4/10

I enjoyed it, it was a pretty fun mindless zombie shooting experience. Not as good as the original, but the original was about teaching a zombie to shoot a pistol. So putting your expectations high for an non-faithful remake is a little silly.

Day of the Dead 2: Contagium, the unofficial sequel to day of the dead is pretty interesting. Low budget and rather cheesy, it does in true sci-fi fashion try to explain the original "satellite falling from space" storyline from the original Night of the Living Dead. You'll hate it but low budget zombie movie/sci-fi fans should be in for a treat.

Space Odyssey 2001. Bluray 1080p.

It's was over a decade since I had seen this and when I found it at the rental store I coveted it like Smeagol did the ring. "My Precious"

From the intro to man to HAL9000 and past what I can only guess is the evolution of Dave to a 4th dimensional being this was an amazing experience to watch again. The story is pure sci-fi, with Arthur C Clark(I think) cowriting the screenplay.

The scenes are amazing with some really cool camera tricks.

It's a must watch. 9/10

I Love You Beth Cooper 7/10

I HATE coming of age stories. I HATE teen sex romps. I HATE college movies. This was a decent comedy that only flirted with each idea and parodied coming of age stories well without breaking the 4th wall. I could have just been pretty tired, but I LMAO'ed. It was basically a slapstick comedy based around a nerd who "steals" a muscle bound ROTC member's girlfriend.

Basically if your woman forces you to watch a "chick flick" or "rom com", suggest this one instead. You should both be in for a treat.

It's as interesting as hearing fans of Emily Dickenson who have never read proverbs or ecclesiastes. Something that seems silly at first glance.

Hmm.  Some other reviews I read last night did mention Job - however I didn't find the comparison particularly compelling.

In Job, we have the story of an abjectly callous and immoral deity, who is happy to give permission for the torture of one of his most virtuous believers--allowing Job's seven sons and three daughters to be murdered, and subsequently giving permission for Job himself to be tortured--all to satisfy a wager with the devil.  And then at the end, god comes down and whines about how tough it is to be creator of the universe, telling Job a mere mortal couldn't possibly understand how difficult that is, and then god points out, besides, I'm king of the world bitch, deal with it.  Finally, Job is given a consolation prize of an extended lifetime so he can have more kids to replace the dead ones.  Thanks YHWH, you prick!

None of which has much of anything to do with A Serious Man, except in the most facile sense that a series of misfortunes befalls a man who happens to be Jewish.

Your opinion of the story of Job not withstanding, the point I'm making is that this movie is not original, it's a modified Job plot. I've not seen the movie, only commenting that the review you posted seemed to rave about originality when the premise is in fact from a quite ancient story.

To keep this somewhat on-topic, I recently (re-)watched the documentary movie, The God Who Wasn't There.  The above is a clip from the movie (except the few seconds at the beginning and end with the gold text and blue background, which were added by the youtube poster.)

Pretty overwhelming similarities between Jesus and previous myths.  By your logic, it is of course stupid to claim any originality pertaining to the Jesus myth.

In any case, I still claim A Serious Man was more original than Jesus.
