Last House On The Left - 8/10

Since everyone seemed to have such a horrible opinion of Last House On The Left, I decided to watch it. Usually things that churn other peoples stomachs tends have little, no, or the complete opposite effect on me. Everyone mentioned how the rape scene was just soooooo horrible. It really had no effect on me at all. I didn't think it was all that graphic or out of place. I thought the other chick getting stabbed beforehand was a little more gruesome, actually. Not bloody enough to really be realistic and horrible like they were going for, but realistic enough. Even though Wes Craven's name is all over this film and he's traditionally known for horror, I'd actually call this more of a suspense movie. And it's pretty good at it too.

Deadgirl - 9/10

Peewee convinced me to watch this one solely on his review of it. Yeah, it was a pretty fucked up movie, but definitely not the most fucked up movie I've ever seen. I agree, it did have some great character development, but with the exclusion of the totally cliche jock boyfriend that gets his dick bit off by the vampire girl. Yes, it's true. After all, if you're going to go far enough to make a movie about raping a zombie/vampire chick chained to a gurney, you might as well have her bite off some dudes cock at some point. And like any scientist will tell you, if you get bit by a zombie, of course you become one. The jock ends up getting infected and shitting out his intestines all over the bathroom wall the next day at school. I LOVED THAT PART. As weird and somewhat cheesy as I thought the movie was, I still loved it. Thanks for recommending this one, Peester!

Iron Maiden: Flight 666

I DVR'd this, figuring I'd probably just watch a few minutes of it to see what the band was up to these days, and then fast forward through the rest.  I didn't expect it to actually grab my interest.

I was a fan of Maiden in high school, but the more I became interested in subtlety and emotional content in poetry, the more cartoonish their songs started to seem to me and I eventually stopped listening.

But this documentary was a lot of fun.

The fact that they were able to cram all their gear for the tour including the stage props, and the crew, and the band, into a modified 757 -- which was then piloted all over the planet by Bruce Dickinson was just too badass.

Plus they all seem like totally nice guys who are enjoying what they do, and who appreciate the fans.  Really a class act.

Now I've got to dig up some of the older CDs like Piece of Mind, as I want to hear some of those tunes again...

Last House On The Left - 8/10

This movie kept reminding me of a Masters of Horror episode staring George Wendt. Basically he kills a bunch of people and keeps their skeletons to pretend that they are his own family. His new neighbors seem really nice until the end when he finds out that he was the one that killed their daughter and they turn psychopathic and torture him to death.

It seems to me that that was more of how Last House on the Left was suppose to happen. Yeah it ended in a decent suspense thriller, but I just have this creeping suspicion that the intention of the film was supposed to be a normal family turning "evil" under extreme circumstances. Last House on the Left didn't convey that message properly.


As for dead girl, it's like this extremely f-ed up version of My Boyfriends Back. But not a *bad* movie. Just a horribly disturbing movie.

Yeah, I heard about that through the Yahoo featured news maybe a year ago. I was kinda surprised to find out that Bruce Dickinson had a commercial pilots license. If I'm remembering the story correctly, he was actually an airline pilot for some big name company before that tour.

I never really listened to very much Iron Maiden back when I was in high school. The only albums I ever had were Powerslave and Live After Death. I recently downloaded the first 5 or 6 Iron Maiden albums (up to Live After Death). I was really surprised to hear how their first album sounded. It was pure crap in my opinion, mostly because of the vocalist they had. They made a very wise decision getting rid of that guy. It's interesting to hear the overall style of that first album too. It really didn't have a style at all, it seemed to draw on several different influences. You can really tell that it wasn't until Bruce Dickinson joined the band that they found their trademark formula for how they sound, especially the galloping rhythm and harmonized guitars.

Premier show and first season of Eureka was really good. I missed most of the second season but when I did see a show it didn't seem as good as the first season but it still has appeal. I loved the house, I need a house that anticipates my needs.

I did not watch seasons 1 or 2. If I would have, then I would have given up on the show. I started with season 3 and have been trying to keep up since. It's a staple show to watch every week at my house. House is another. Fringe was for the first few episodes. We missed 2 and are unable to start watching without seeing those 2. We tried once and NOTHING made sense. It's an unbelievably great series. It's just serial enough that it can be ruined that way.

Southland Tales =  -2/10

This is quite possibly the worst movie ever made that does not star Jim Carrey. I assume it cost several dumptrucks full of money to make from the cast. Dwayne Johnson (aka "The Rock"), Sean William Scott, the creepy midget lady from that one Poltergeist movie, the "that's inconceivable!" guy from The Princess Bride, Cheri Oteri, Sarah Michelle Gellar, the guy that played Boogar in the Nerds movies, Nora Dunn (old SNL ho), Christopher Lambert, John Laroquette, John Lovitz, Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, Amy Poehler, Will Sasso, Kevin Smith, and several others I won't bother naming, big fuckin' deal. That's a LOT of trailers for people. That's a lot of makeup and costumes and catering. How can someone possibly justify spending this much money on such a horrible movie when there are starving black kids in Africa with flies all over them?

A clock radio blaring The Carpenters is some scary shit. I guess this was technically a "thriller", although I would much rather shoehorn it into the "horror" category simply because it's one of the only truly scary movies I've seen in a LONG time.
