This map is currently running on TS500 and when when I look at certain walls I get the following error:

those wall triangles would seem to be missing the light flag, but for some reason have a corresponding lightmap assigned to them from going thru arghrad or w/e prog the map maker used.

perhaps the radiant lighting prog didn't finish while building the map, or bonked on some weird flag values.

not sure..

Spawny said it runs in software mode, so I'd assume it's something screwy with the lightmaps that are displayed by the opengl drivers. You might be able to manually edit the .bsp to add the correct flag so that the surface is counted as "lit", but it's probably better to rebuild it entirely from the .map file, after making sure those flags are set correctly in an editor.

Interesting... so this happens right when you enter the game?

I've been able to run around all over the map, underground, rooftops, etc., and so far it hasn't produced that error on my system.  (I'm using r1q2/r1gl.)

Strange...

This does not happen immediatly, it is only when certain walls come into view, and they all appear to be near the outer areas of the map. Inside of the compound and the underground areas did not cause the problem

It tried running it in both r1q2 and a standard client with the same results.

I was unable to test in software. For some reason my q2 crashes on this machine as soon as I load any map in software mode.


The map looks sweet from the little bit that I've seen. Maybe I should try deleting the copy that i downloaded form the server and downloading it again... I'll blame file corruption for now LOL.

Hmm, OK, maybe I just haven't chanced to encounter the particular naughty wall(s) yet then.. :(

This exact crash happens to me on certain maps in xatrix.  Although it only appears to happen to me - everybody else is fine :)

I thought it was a bug on my client (r1q2/r1gl also).  Can't remember bsp names but one of the maps is a '1984' themed map (Ignorance is strength etc.).

I can run around the map for a while or a few seconds before it happens.

I was on that map today with Armor and didn't get any error messages or oddities. However I did notice a few things. There doesn't appear to be any proper lighting, however I saw shadows here and there. It's as if it was compiled in fullbright mode. The yellows and whites in the walls were harsh and washed out, as if the vid_gamma was cranked up. You need sunglasses for this map. Also the sky was blotchy and undefined. However I liked the architecture of the place. A good attempt at a Mediterranean village. There were very few weapons and ammo. And no doors would open. They were just textures on walls. If I had the time I would work on it and get some real lighting in there and other improvements. Howver it's not my map so I'll leave that to the owner.
