I have actually never seen KISS play live. Which is nuts, cuz they've always toured like crazy and I'm sure they've swung through Atlanta plenty of times. Just never did. Probably wouldn't want to at this point though. I dunno that Gene or Paul can sing all that much like they used to anymore. I'd be better off sitting at home with a DVD of an old 70's KISS show or something. At least then, you'd get Peter and Ace too. Never cared that much about Ace, but Peter had a few songs he sang on that just don't sound the same and/or as good with Paul doing the vocals.

Proof that I'm not ENTIRELY ENVELOPED in racism... unlike some people around here.

Albert Collins. First heard this guy in my teens when I was learning guitar and I got turned on to Stevie Ray Vaughan and then started listening to other blues guitarists. Saw a CD of his in a public library, checked it out, and loved his sound. The way he played, especially in his later years, he had a pretty gnarly and hard pick attack, which I discovered a short time later was due to the fact that he didn't play with a pick at all and would just pluck the living crap out of the strings with his bare fingers. And that can kinda limit the speed of your picking and speed and number of notes played, but he still made it work really well. And the fact that he always played a Fender Telecaster, a guitar known for it's particularly twangy ring,... you take that coupled with his fingerstyle picking, and it makes for a gritty spanky squeal that slaps the shit out of the notes against your ears. And if that wasn't enough to set him apart from the crowd in the blues world, he also had tons of charisma and swagger that shone through in a lot of his songs. The dude was just a born showman.

Anyway, a couple of my favorites from him.

I think this one is from 1970, I'm not really sure because a lot of the stuff he did in the 60's got re-issued to new albums under different names during the 70's. This one I just find kinda funny. "MAH PATATAH!" "Will ya pah da biskit plee - SHUT UP BOY AN EET DEM GREEN!"

And this one I think might be a remake of one of his earlier songs. He died of liver cancer in 1993, and his last studio album came out in 1991. But when he was recording that last studio album, I think he also took that opportunity to re-record several of his older songs from the 60's 70's and 80's, and all of that stuff which wasn't on his 1991 studio album titled "Iceman" was later released shortly after his death in 1993 on a greatest hits album called "Collins Mix - The Best of Albert Collins". And because of the fact that all the songs are re-recorded versions of the songs, it's not a "REAL" greatest hits album, it's pretty much a whole new album. Even so, I personally like the re-recorded updated versions of the songs 100x more than all the original versions of them. But this song also shows off his plucking fingerstyle attack pretty well.
