No Railgun Hum

I've had no railgun hum for a number of years now.  I always fail x amount of files when entering a server and sometimes it refers to the railgun hum wav file.
I'd love to fix all my bad q2 files but that would be a big job probably with the way my q2 folder has evolved over the years :/
But I want my hum back.

Any ideas how I could possibly fix this please?

Are you using a custom sound pak? one of the files in there may be overwriting the default railgun hum sound with an empty sound file.

The original railgun hum is "weapons/rg_hum.wav" and it was originally distributed in pak0.pak.
The full path is /sound/weapons/rg_hum.wav in that pak.
Any other higher numbered paks containing that file will override the old one.
Also any real files external to paks and residing on that path will override it.

Heh...one of the first things I did to my pak.0 file years ago was to get rid of the railgun hum. I use a regular receiver with typical home speakers for my computer sound system, which reproduces low frequencies really well. So the hum was loud and annoying. And I really don't care if the opponent is using one or not. I can't imagine the din on the Railz server.

Good stuff.

I used Qped to look at my 2 extra pak files and sure enough, in pak9, there's a file called rg_hum.wav - I renamed it and now have my old humming railgun back.

Removing that file would be the better solution.
