Picked up my first guns today:

For me:
Sig Sauer P226 Tac Ops 9 mm

For the wife (and my concealed carry):
Sig Sauer P290 9 mm

Was originally hoping to get the Sig Sauer P226 mk. 25, but could not find it locally, and didn't want to deal with the hassle of shipping and FFL transfers.  After talking to the salesman, I ended up being sold on the Tac Ops, partly because it comes with 4 20 round magazines.  The wife was a little skeptical at first of the purchase price, but then she got jealous after we bought it so we went and found the 290 for her.  Pretty good day all in all.

Dunno what state you live in, but here in Georgia CWP holders have to use a shoulder holster, no beltline concealed holsters. Makes it a little easier to carry something in a full frame. Recently I've been carrying my little shortnosed small frame Taurus 32 H&R mag revolver. I tend to be a little more dead-on accurate with short frame revolvers, but I'm not thrilled about it's round capacity. Been thinking about picking up something like a full frame 10mm Glock 20. Been fucking around at the range out back with a neighbors Glock and I'm quite impressed with their performance. Not bad recoil at all. You can fire it a long time without it jarring your wrist bones to shit. He had some kind of ported extended barrel slapped into it though, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

beautiful weapon, but not an ideal first choice. You're going to spend a fortune on ammo. You should've went with a .22 Cal, both fun and cheap.

9mm is a minimum round for a CC wep. Nobody but a punk-ass gangsta would carry a .22 cal. You carry .40 cal. if your serious and .45 cal. for one-shot, one-kill. Daddy smokes big fatties.

Maybe if he wanted to stop some skinny little shrieking Richard Simmons look-alike like you, he'd use a piddly little 22.

What he is oblivious to is the fact that a 22 amounts to a higher powered pellet pistol. You use 22s for varmint hunting, shit like foxes, coyotes, jackrabbits. If you're pulling a concealed carry pistol from your holster, it's required that deadly force be necessary for the situation. 22 rounds are not exactly deadly. Unless you get a perfect shot through the heart or the brain stem, it's only going to merely wound the person. Believe it or not, if you're forced to use deadly force on someone as a concealed permit holder, it has to be done with a round suited for KILLING them efficiently and... humanely. Fucked up, but true.

Preach it!   .22 jams more than any other round out there, unless you have a revolver don't count on using every round you load in.
Between Glock, H&K, and Springield (all 9mm or .45) I can't recall having a jam, ever.

.22's are fun, and cheap.  But he bought the one to carry,  need something reliable.
So yeah,  his carry rounds are gonna be about a buck a piece for something really nice, which he will PROBABLY never use.
But the plinking crap can be found for under 20 cents,  worth it to be able to tell you hit something :)

I swear I have brought this up before,  about someone talking about using birdshot in his home shotgun so as to not kill an intruder,  just mess him up.
The stuff bad lawsuits are made of.

If you shoot at an intruder/ attacker anywhere,  you are better off legally if he can't talk afterwards.

I've had 9mm's jam a few times, but no, its not as often as 22's. 22's are made pretty sloppily, the bullet diameter can be off a little sometimes, sometimes the way they press the priming into the rim can prevent them from firing. You don't have that problem nearly as much with a center fire primed cartridge. Still best to practice clearing jams quickly as much as you practice hitting targets at the range. Like you said, most permit holders never have to pull their weapon, but it's best to be prepared in case it ever DOES happen. You practice clearing jams over and over and over until whenever it does happen, you barely notice it because it's already second nature and instinct to pop the clip out, cycle the slide, clear the breach, pop the mag back in place, and keep going. Then again, that is the biggest advantage to carrying a revolver as opposed to a semi-auto pistol. Just about the ONLY one really. You can even get semi-autos that fire magnum rounds with a much flatter trajectory and farther range than something like a 9mm. Not exactly a huge selling point for concealed carry though. If you have a situation where you actually pull your pistol from it's holster, the targets typically going to be inside of 20 feet from you. Even hollowpoints with that much energy behind them can pass through a person and keep going. That's not good. You risk hitting someone innocent and finding yourself in a world of shit even though it was a complete accident.

The only reason why I would spend a fortune in ammo is because of how awesome the gun is and how much of a blast it is to empty a clip with no care for where the bullets are going.  I went to the range tonight, and was shooting tight groups but then got carried away.  I went through 150 rounds (had limited time at the range).  I started off shooting for accuracy, but I couldn't resist!  (Ran 136 rounds through the 226, and 14 rounds through the 290).

And Reflex is spot on...the rounds I was shooting ran me about .20-.25 cents each, maybe I can get them cheaper, but I'm comfortable with that price.

If I were going to get a .22, I would waste JUST as much ammo, because I would by the Kel Tec PMR-30, and I would have a blast.

A box of 100 rounds at Walmart is $20 for Federal 115 gr. jacketed.  Those will do just fine.

I DID buy a box of hollow points, but I'm not sure if and when I would actually load them, probably not for plinking, maybe I'd use those for concealed carry?

As for vices, I don't smoke, I do drink a lot of beer, so adding a shooting hobby won't break the bank.

Might wanna read whatever you signed when getting that CWP. Pretty sure in all applicable states, a concealed carry weapon is only allowed to be loaded with hollows, no fmj's. Like I said earlier, sometimes even larger caliber magnum hollows can continue on through soft tissue and hit someone or something behind or beside the target. Full jacketed rounds are designed to retain their shape and punch clean hole through a target. It can be fatal, but not always. Hollows will absorb the forward energy upon impact with a soft target into the open ended hollow tip, causing it to expand. Hollow points are designed like that to mushroom out creating one large wound cavity and allow the target to absorb as much of the bullets energy as possible for a more devastating hit. Larger caliber magnum hollow points will do the same in a target, but depending on where and what you hit with it, it's always possible that it could pass completely through it, or a fragment of the bullet could tear off and redirect out to the side. That's why it's also best to always try to hit your target in the chest. Headshots are cool, but it's a smaller target, and a well placed shot to the chest will drop someone just as quick. It's a thicker part of the body. Skull bone really isn't what would slow the bullet down the most, it's the liquidous tissue and blood that would stop the bullet the most. Jumping off a really tall bridge into water can be like jumping off a bridge onto a paved concrete surface. It's the whole science shit of surface tension at work. Anyway, a shot in the chest is always the first one you go for. Even if you miss the heart or pulmonary arteries, you still puncture the lungs and they choke quickly. If it's still moving after that, take a headshot if you really want, hehe. :D

150 rounds goes quick :)

4 (20 round) mags!?  You showed up with over half of it loaded already,  or should have.  Good way to save range time is with a ton of mags.
Went to the range one time and before punching in we sat at the club house loading 300 ak rounds,  that was a fun day :)

I loaded all of my magazines before I went to the range.  4x20 for the 226, and 1x6, 1x8 for the 290.  Once I cycle through the 226, I switched to the 290, and when I decided I wanted to shoot some more, I reloaded 2 full clips for the 226, and then leftovers in a third clip.

I had difficulty fighting rounds 15-20 into the clip, but I got used to it after a while.  My Lula ammo loader came from Amazon today, so reloading should be a breeze from here on out.

Foc, from what I can tell there aren't any restrictions on what load you have in your CW, but it would probably be smartest to load hollow points to reduce the amount of potential collateral damage should you ever have to fire it.  My friend has a hollow point as his first round, and then the rest jacketed.  NC is an open carry state, except for the town of Cary by local ordinance, and Chapel Hill, where open carry is restricted to guns of a minimum size.  Again, I don't know how often I will find myself carrying at all, but I would like the option, and will stick with hollow points when I do.

Hmmm. I know it isn't written on the back of the permit itself. Basically all you get on the back is just saying not to carry in a public sporting event, church, bar or any place that serves alcohol, political rallies, etc. I looked over the laws online and apparently it's unlawful, permit or not, to carry a weapon into a nuclear power facility, lol. Didn't know that, not that I ever go to a nuclear power plant anyway. :D Furthermore, I didn't see anything regulating the type of ammunition used in a concealed carry weapon either. Fuck me silly, I could've swore I saw that on the application. Then again, it didn't mention anything about nuclear power facilities on the application either even though it's law. It's not required that you volunteer the info to a law enforcement official approaching you that you are carrying a concealed weapon with a valid permit either, only if he asks if you have a weapon. If he asks and you say "No", yeah, then you're screwed. Personally, I would never volunteer the info. Most cops will appreciate honesty, but every now and then you get some gung-ho jackass Barney Fife that doesn't believe individuals should have the right to carry with a permit. These dicks will do everything they can to find a reason to site you for something.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
