Would be nice to play some duels versus you to prove how wrong you are....

The idea is not that jumpers cant shoot (check out q2scene/jump page and q2scene/euroq2l pages. Many  top10 jumpers play in clans and do it really well (ads, fasadin and some more), its all about jumping. When you go to Rock Concert, you expect rock music , not some church ave maria. 

Jump server remains to be for jumping. That's my opinion and i agree with it.

My point was not that you can't aim, although I'd probably handle any of the regulars there without much effort while they jumped around like a fucking tard with little or no strategy (even though I suck pretty badly)

The thing I was highlighting is that a lot of you are here whining this hard so you don't have to shoot anything ever, and as you've mentioned a bunch of the regs on jump go AFK just to avoid having to shoot a gun enough to kill someone once.

That's just pitiful. Really.


This game is not just an opengl version of msn messenger with a jumping minigame.

It's one of the best SHOOTERS ever, and you lame-asses can't even be bothered to shoot.

I know that my English sucks, but i thought you are a bit more "brained" person. I am not going to give links to you, but most of jumpers playing duels/tdm/ctf even more than you and maybe better i bet....

So if we come to jump server to set some records, those "overtimes" in the end destroys concentrate you need if you want to be on top5.

The only regular jumpers I see on the other servers who do well on a regularly basis would be Toxicmonkey, and Halo King on the FFA servers.

Leviathan plays some tdm mods every so often and does ok.

These guys can all shoot, and amazingly they aren't here complaining about the last man standing bit at the end of the maps.
I'd bet it's because while the rest of you cry, die, and go AFK, they're still standing and shooting.

oh... its my bad. I was talking overall .... This topic belongs to tastyspleen server only. Those your mentioned players could come to european jump servers and try their "shooting" skills with high ping.

But you again missed a point: your mentioned players don't belong even to average jumpers... They are behind average so your arguments are quite illogical. yogurt is better than average from my eyes.

It comes to a boring discusion with you -> face the facts: Jump server for jumping. DM servers for shooting. Ask good duel/tdm players ( i am not talking about USA, cos there is only 2-4 players who know how to shoot) what do they think about "overtime" there you need jump 3 minutes) .  I bet rarely someone would understand your stupid question.

On the other hand, i am just going with yogurt in overall. In fact, i don't care what you got in tastyjump server. Come to WirePlay for real competition. Even i am not playing this mod for a long time

The players I mentioned don't need to be good jumpers, nor do they need to be able to compete at jump across the ocean for my point to be made.

They are what I called them: The people who jump regularly on TS jump and who are not here complaining about having to shoot for a little bit.


Earlier I stated that I can probably hold my own vs the majority of the players on TS jump if they were to play some kind of DM. I can keep up with any of the guys I mentioned when I play, and they are some of the few regulars I see there who play other mods that involve shooting and can actually come out in the positives or get on the scoreboard in FFA.

There are a select few who play there who would destroy me at DM. They aren't these supposed euro q2 gods you are claiming to see, but rather a few of the NA tdm crowd...

You can keep on sucking off this random yogurt guy if you'd like, but don't try to tell me there isn't a logical basis behind my posts. There is, and you just aren't seeing it.

Since you are not jumper by heart , you should not post here, being honest. There are jumpers who don't sleep 3-5 days in case to reach their goal (finish a map or get a 1st place). You may never understand the feeling when you finally complete your task. I wouldn't  mind if TDM servers have such feature as "overtime" for jumping.... But that would be stupid even for me.

So I advice you to get in jump by Heart and then post something sensible

The kind of tasks I face in DM or tdm or itdm are things like: "Beat that guy ONCE, who has 8 more years of experience, a lower ping, and better aim than I have"

Sometimes I will play for months or years just to accomplish that task, and in some cases even after years of trying I will not beat them or come even close.



Don't try to tell me jump is the same. It's not.

The jump map that you cant beat will always be the same even if you play it a million times. you just have to get better to beat it.

in DM the players you want to beat get better as you play them, and they learn your tricks, forcing the bar up constantly on any sort of accomplishment.


It's like apples and oranges when you compare the relative skill levels required and I find it hilarious that so many jumpers think that their one skill (moving without having to worry about an enemy shooting them) is so much more incredible and important than the many skills combined that are required to win at any form of DM.

Jump is for jumping, TDM is for shooting. Movement in tdm is the last thing if we look in aim,tactic/strategy, map knownledge , movement. So you can move like a michael Jordan and you will be the easiest frag in TDM.

I understand your position- you dont fight for 1st places, so you enjoy other features in jumpmod. One of them - shoot in the end.

Although I prefer FFA/TDM/t3h gunz over jumpmod, I can definitely see how people can really get into jumpmod. Maybe 'cause I see a definite similarity between jump and speedruns. You really have to be somewhat stubborn and obsessive if you want to get a good time, and ironically enough, play the map/game for the longest time in order to get the shortest time. I don't know about people who're comparing skills, or saying it's the prime skill to have over anything else. And as stated already, it's apples and oranges.

Maybe I can break it down this way; the basic goal of jumpmod is to go through what is pretty much an obstacle course by manipulating Q2's unique movement system and jumps. But the secondary, and maybe the more important goal, is to get the fastest time and hopefully onto the scoreboard. In order to accomplish this secondary goal, you have to study the map and figure any shortcuts, learn the ideal ways to get past certain jumps and obstacles, etc. Once that's done, you have to string together your planned route with near-perfect execution. Memorization and execution are the key skills in jumpmod.

In DM, you don't play against a static set of obstacles, but rather another living human stands in your way of the goal (getting the most points). To accomplish this, you have to out think and out perform your opponent instead of memorizing solutions to overcome whatever obstacles you come across. Sure, you might be able to pick up on some patterns your opponent may have, but if he switches it up and does something completely different then what you've 'memorized', you could be in trouble. And even if you know how to beat your opponent, you still have to execute the right actions to actually beat your opponent. Adaptation/prediction and execution would be the necessary skills here.

Obviously, they're different sets of skills but execution is the similar skill here. If you can't make those key jumps on whatever map in jumpmod, you're not going to get a fast time. If you can't capitalize on your opponent making a clear mistake or follow up on a prediction of your opponent's next move, he's going to get away and you won't get the kill.

People may have to play for a long time to accomplish anything with a memory-heavy or adaptive-heavy game before finally seeing results. Those Ikaruga world records and Mario speed runs didn't pop up overnight, same goes with the top fighting game, FPS or whatever players. It's fine if one doesn't appreciate how much time goes into trying to accomplish said goals, though.

Or maybe it's the perfomance that makes prediction/adaptive skills look flashy and cool that makes it 'better'; let's take the famous EVO 2K4 moment vs a run with no damage taken on a single stage. Daigo KNEW Justin was going for chip damage on his super because even if he blocked it, it would kill him, so he took an appropriate action to win. I know where nearly everything is on that stage and have a route planned out because I've played it to death, so I take the necessary actions to avoid any damage.

i suck, take out fight mode

Same goes for speedrunners, getting a world record high score, hell anything really. Heh but I do hope 3-5 days is an exaggeration!
