Did you run the Updater before the error or after and does it also happen on other servers?
What does it say when you type vid_ref? (Maybe you've accidentally set it to something unknown from the console.)

That anticheat violation is usually caused by an obsolete/bad driver, but I think it could also be related to an updated anticheat.dll
I'd probably take a closer look at my quake2 dir to see if there's some 3dfx.dll or whatever that shouldn't be there and then I'd manually download and install the latest r1gl and anticheat from r1ch.net again and see what happens.

I had been playing for a few matches already. Everything was just fine since I had started playing 15 minutes earlier.

That could indicate a memory error, the video check runs periodically so for it to succeed for the last 15 minutes and then suddenly fail suggests something weird is happening. Try running memtest86+ for a few hours to verify your RAM isn't going bad as this is the most likely cause, especially if you've noticed other symptoms such as application crashes or blue screens. http://www.memtest.org/
