Evolution versus Intelligent Design

Heheheh... I've been thinking of asking about this for awhile, but it can be such a sensitive issue I wasn't sure I wanted to get into it - but I'm an ecologist at heart and this article (strongly favoring evolution - be warned!) inspired me to post it.

It seems the Intelligent Design folk tend to believe in a God to whom they ascribe various nifty ajectives, such as Omnipotence, Omniscience, etc.

Thanks so much pants... that's more or less exactly how I feel about it....

The more I learn about the world of nature and man, the more astonished I become that something could be so perfectly intelligent as to create all this, and endow us with the ability to appreciate it, and allow us to endlessly discover just how much more we don't understand.

Two observations

1) Science is the search for TRUTH.  Faith and opinion can be a guide to a scientist, but they cannot be used to verify or validate.  They must be burned away by scientific scrutiny.

I see a weakness in many people's faith when they try to discredit science.  If you BELIEVE in XYZ, then why wouldn't you want the focus of science to help independently prove it.  This would let everyone else understand and appreciate what you believe!  I liken it to someone not wanting to ask if their breath stinks.


2) The good thing about ID, in my opinion, is that it gets people thinking about the fundamental questions.  I am surprised by those who go through life without considering, discussing, or dreaming about these.  Not only are they missing out.  But, I believe, thinking about these helps a person define and internalize their moral character.

Given that the generally accepted Age of the Earth is 4,55 billions years, and that the first dated humans were 3,6millions years ago. It could come across as an insult to God's prowess to believe that he couldnt pull off humans for over 4 billions years. 

My question is: Why would an ID use billions years to instituate the world as we know it? rather than spawn it all in a few seconds...

I belive that God did create the world really quickly.I think he sped up "evolution" to a point where man was finally around and then BAM its back to normal speed.How else could you explain the dinosaurs.So think hard and tell me an omnipotent God couldnt do that.Course 1 billion years is a blink of an eye to Someone who is eternal.So maybe he got some popcorn and sat back and watched.

I know better than to get involved with this. I guess it's my reckless nature. There was alot more I initially intended to write here, but scratched it all and instead decided to offer a few thoughts, opinions, and questions. Maybe some of you can help me out here.

I think this is more about what our oldest documentation (Bible scriptures) tells us, and whether or not it's true. Crazed is obviously sugar-coating the subject. There's alot of science theory that is unproven, yet broadly accepted as fact. (does Einstein ring a bell ?) What is it in the Bible that has without any doubt been proven false ?

At the risk of this sounding like a copout, forget the "on the first day" stuff. There was no such thing as a "day", before the heavens, earth, and sun existed. Context of time in this regard, I think is irrelavent. Let's focus more on life creation.

Is what's said in the Bible just false ?

There's no doubt that evolution is a fact, but to what extent ? Why is there no known documentation of it ? Did man just miraculacly become intelligent enough to start documenting life at some point and evolution for us stop there? Did some humanoids develope at a faster rate than others ?

In summary, I suppose the theory that life started from nothing, with or without ID is possible. Just let me know when it's duplicated, then you'll have my full attention.

Just to muck things up a little, what is the consequence of believing a false? Is that the same as not believing a true ?
