I see some changes to that setup I would make. Wish my work would stop giving me work!

like what?!? gimme links!
I only shopped around a little bit the other day to make that list up, and I'm open to suggestions.
I like the coolermaster case, and I've used a very similar one before (I know it won't fit SLI 8800s) so any suggestions there would be nice. (I might be limitted to a mid size case, due to the furniture it's going in)
The rest was just me twiddling through newegg for decently reviewed hardware with the minimum specs I want:
newer gen ASUS mobo with plenty of PCI-e x 16
3ghz+ intel core2duo or better processor
512mb geforce 8+ series with high clockspeeds (with room for a second in SLI)
4gb+ DDR2 ram (I've had some problems with compatibility on ddr3)
700w-1000w PSU with decent amps per 12v rail and a horizontal fan layout
250gb+ sata 3gb/s HD (don't need a huge expensive one since I run a fairly barebones rig)

Why ASUS? I use to be a big ASUS fanboy but other manufactures have made huge strides in catching them and in most cases these days, beating them. For a NVIDIA chip set like the one you picked I suggest EVGA since they're basically NVIDIA and who can do it better then themselves. Striker boards have had all kinds of problems in the past. This board in particular is the new EVGA -

If you're going to get a NVIDIA chipset then you must want SLI. If you don't want SLI then don't get a NVIDIA chipset because those chip sets still aren't as good as Intel when it comes to performance, reliability and overclock ability.
The new cards are pretty sick -

although the card you picked out will get the job done for sure.

OK, since i'm a noob when it comes to motherboards, i've just recently learned that my piece of shit mobo uses a piece of shit chipset (ASUS P5VD2-MX, with VIA/S3G chipset) that can't accommodate the video card i just got. NOW LOOKING FOR A NEW MOTHERBOARD.
I have 2 GB of ram that say "value select" on them (can't remember what they are), and an Intel Celeron D 3.46 ghz
Also, I read that the 8800GT requires a psu that puts out 24a to 12v, and mine is only rated at 20a. (mine is 450w)
-i'm guessing a new power supply would be a necessity.
Suggestions? looking for maybe a step under the really expensive ones (but no more cheap shit). any help is appreciated.
and btw, i dont want to just get another card, i've been meaning to upgrade this comp here and there over the next few years.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L is an awesome board, coupled with a decent PSU such as a Corsair HX520 you should be set. Check the motherboard supports your CPU first though!

Just for clarification: Asus does make great MB's, you just happen to have a cheap/old one.

Just got myself the EVGA 8600GT SuperClocked.
I loaded Crysis and blew my wad. Who wants an ASUS 7300GS?

I support this suggestion. I've built over a dozen workstations with this exact motherboard. Good hardware for the price for sure.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
