Some people may have heard of Hellfire maps.

If there is a shortcut in any of his maps you can guarantee it is either made that way on purpose or it is so difficult that most people won't/can't even attempt it.

This map was made by him years ago. Noone, even wootwoot or nookie, could ever imagine this sc would be possible for now.

there is an unwritten rule that if a shortcut cuts out more than 50% of a map then it gets blocked (most of the time anyway).

Yeah. and this one was cutting off more than 90% of a map.

Sometimes the admin calls a vote before blocking a sc to see what the players actually want but this wasn't done here.

Let you remember that once upon a time you used to say that in obvious cases like cutting off 90% of a map, there's no need to vote. I can bet  that if you call a vote on enabling speedjump cheats, it would pass.

Interestingly merc also had completed the map with the sc and had not deemed the sc invalid.

Was he an admin already, when he completed it?

    From what little I play of jump,  I agree Hellfire maps are in a class all alone,  even if only based on difficulty.
I can't remember having the patience/skill to complete just one,   and wondered why ANYONE would vote them.

    I can picture you running the map, and an inspiration comes into your head as you see a possible jump,
almost making it a few times actually.   You practice it and work on it,  adjusting your movements as you find
just the right angles to hit,   and the totally sweet feeling you get when you finally make it.
Kinda seems like the jump mod version of a perfectly timed wallhack-like rail shot.

    Just how hard is this jump?   If it took toxic days to get it,  I see him on jump alot,  must be a bitch.
I take it everyone on the board got there by the same shortcut?  So maybe it's not too tough (shrugs)

    Duplicate the map?   Maybe makes sense somehow,  but I don't see it.   Two versions of the same map?
One easy and one hard?  Isn't there already an 'easy' and 'hard'? 

     If Loh did do it to piss you off thats messed up,   but what else can people do to that affect without
a chaingun or BFG handy?   Anyhow,     you didn't condump it so he prolly wasn't too over the top about it,
and since you only 'suspect' it I doubt even someone looking into it would turn up anything.

     Maybe jump admins could keep/share notes on what got fixed where and by who,   or like you said,
at least discuss it,   (late in the game,  I take it most maps are fixed)  Lotta fixes,  maybe there are notes (shrugs)

     As for thought/moderation from the admins,  yer right.  They WORK for us,   after paying their wages these
years its bout time we started getting...  wait a sec!   nvm   

      Kidding aside I know exactly what you went thru as described,   I'm with ya on keeping extremely difficult
shorcuts,   if you can find that quadruple jump up to the third level,  god bless you.

Edge was made years ago,  before the fancy jumps n stuff were possible.  People were MEANT to g,gl, or rl jump
to get to the mega,  but don't have to anymore. (plastik excluded)   Block it off from being jumped to
and make players use weapon jumps to it again?      A sad example I'm sure,   but just pointing out that
technology and ability have a way of,  progressing.

90%  50%  63%,  whatever,  I still wanna see just how hard this shorcut was!    There have to be some
that are so damned tough that if you can get it you deserve a medal as well as a place on the board.
(dunno if this qualifies,  but some probably do)
I'm bout ready to go load hellfire68 and just try and dream up what the shortcut was!

Who exactly votes this stuff anyhow?  The players connected at the time,   wetarded could be in that group.
I'm with you on autonomy for some of these things,  never know how many or who is gonna be on the server
when a vote comes up.    As it is just look at the gay wanker map votes

Who cares when merc became an admin?  Has his opinion changed on the matter?
Seems if two admins differ on sometihng on the server (yes we just found out now)
then maybe it's discussion worthy to see how it shoul be set,

I used to jump w/ hellfire, carnage, and a bunch of other older map makers. Hellfire isn't even an extremely oldschool one. if I still have his aim i will ask him myself about this matter. If not i'll check out the map myself later and give my opinion

toxic, finally got a chance to review the map. I'm really not quite sure what you're talking about... The only blocks I see are the big ones on the left side of where you spawn to the ramp. Here is a demo of me completing the map on easy if anyone wonders what it looks like (didn't have the textures for those last 2 DJ's... was hard to see where to jump!!)

He's talking about this one: you could make a big circle on ice all around the floor, until you get enough speed for the ramp, and thus ramp-jumping up to the rail directly from floor without doing all other jumps. That's about 5 secs or less to complete map this way.

ive seen maps that are JUST one jump as you describe,

This map is missing on Wireplay but if you connect to the Kubus server (217.153.59.106:27916) and do a 'mapvote hellfire_68' then type 'replay' in console you can see the shortcut as done by rl.

toxic, perhaps that is a sollution. What i asked before is what blocks are restricting you from doing it? Is it the ones on the left in a line so you won't get as much speed? I think that's what you mean (wish u would answer my Q tho!!). maybe making 2 versions if the best solution. Oh and just telling u, although very hard, it IS possible to still do the sc there even w/ the blocks being there, i'd imagine anyways, just extremely hard.

Also, random question toxic, just out of curiousity if u know: why does everyone on the jump server think that I got my admin powers taken away because I abused them? lol.. There were a few ppl yesterday saying 'u lost your admin sal and loh said so ha'.

News to me.  As far as I am aware you are still the bigshot admin of jump.
