Clarification please

Merc deserves a warning for this, as he will get one, but nothing more in my opinion.

I'm surprised at the occasion that Toxic didn't post a condump of this case before. Merc already silenced him several times, but Toxic used to bitch for it on the server. So, I guess giving Merc a warning is needless.

First, I do want to thank merc for giving warnings before taking action.

That said, I agree with fanny, here:

One of the hardest parts of being an admin is having a thick skin, the verbal abuse (directed at you or others) is part of the job and you are expected not to react to it. Anyone can admin if all you do is ban and mute because you are pissed it is also why so many servers dont last as the admins get head strong and let emotion rule.

May I draw your attention to the fact it's not a personal insult? You're insulting merc's parents. That's generally a different thing, which is much worse than calling an admin names.

Hmm, by "personal" I mean essentially ad hominem.

Let me put it this way: If you take the insult personally, it's probably a personal insult.

and one thing on admin policy ( that I think ) should be one rule  remake dont call admins any of shity names

Merc, I don't want to create rules that say no-one is allowed to call the admins names.  I would rather admins just ignore ad hominem attacks.

You hear, don't put my nick in here. I've never booted or silenced you by using my admin, maybe once or twice I silenced you, but I can't remember such a case. All my silence votes were regular vote elections, do realize that please. I didn't EVEN call you a name. Can you understand?

On the one hand, it's true that I consider 'ur mom' jokes to be just another variation in a broad category of personal insults.  As such I don't think they should be treated specially.

However!

There is another factor here.

Over the years, I have on several occasions dealt with players who deliberately push the limits repeatedly, over and over, month after month, whatever.  I start out by giving people a lot of slack.  But eventually they use it up.  When that happens, I will start muting, kicking, or banning these people on a lot more of a hair trigger than I used to.

Toxic, I don't think you should be surprised if you find you are entering this category of players.  You have admitted you enjoy trying to provoke people (while at the same time, you also cry about people trying to wind you up--which is somewhere, I guess, between 'cute' and 'retarded'.)

To summarize:

  1. I don't think 'ur mom' jokes should be treated differently from other personal insults. Just ignore them.

  2. Players who are a perpetual nuisance over weeks or months should expect to eventually run out of slack.
