Because 95% of dueling is map knowledge. No matter how much you are tired of a map, players will always choose their best one. We've discussed at length in other threads about this whole difference between the dueling community vs. the FFA community and how duelers generally wouldn't branch out to a new map if their life depended on it.

Duelers are all generally boring people that play overused and boring maps. You can set your clock by the fact that every 10 minutes dm1 will be played again on tourney 4. The only reason why newer maps are occasionally played is because FFA centric players have started suggesting them at koths.

q2pduel6 was played at least once during koth. I honestly think that it's a better DM map based on how skinny that the most important hallways are. Although the number of entry points into the mega room is really fun to defend and attack into regardless.

thats mainly due to people like me who extremely dislike dm1 and have been trying to promote maps like q2rdm2 and ztn2dm3 instead of playing dm1 all day long... when i started quake2 i never saw matches on anything but dm1 so ive made it a priority of mine to promote map variety, and so far its been working

because you're playing them, I play 90% of my 1 on 1 matches on maps other than dm1...but when im not around or sitting out there is waaayyy more games going on in dm1..and it's been that way for years.
