Howdy,

It's come to my attention that your gl_modulate setting can make a huge difference with visibility on fusion.bsp.  I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention so you don't get camp-raped by completely invisible players.  :dohdohdoh:

I normally play with these settings:
  gl_modulate 4.0
  vid_gamma 0.6
  intensity 4.0
  gl_coloredlightmaps 1

These settings are normally plenty bright on my monitor for most maps.  However, in the screenshots below, you'll see that there are camp spots on fusion.bsp where the camper is completely pitch black and invisible with these settings.

In the screenshots where the players and items ARE visible, I've changed my settings to:
  gl_modulate 99
  vid_gamma 0.5
  intensity 4.0
  gl_coloredlightmaps 0

I trust the screenshots speak for themselves.  (Yes, the two players are really up there, in the 'before' screenshot, even though you can't see them.)

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know, in case you may want to adjust your settings for the tourney.

If you use R1GL, you may also with to experiment with gl_doublelight_entities as it default off in R1GL. Normally vanilla GL applies modulate twice to entities, which results in unrealistic looking shading, however when you have a map like this you may wish to benefit from the extra brightness, so set gl_doublelight_entities 1.

I just use a different sky.
It's "snow2" from ra2. I made a pak with all the textures. (vlcno,cyg,snow,snow2)

I'll try Elysium idea though, sounds nice.  :)

BTW... A couple days ago, Panjoo sent me some nice suggestions for further refinement of some of the item placement on fusion.  I think they're good suggestions, and I don't think they amount to anything that should negatively affect anyone who's been playing the modified map for the past couple days.

I'll take the liberty of posting Panjoo's screenshots here.  If I have time tonight, I may implement most of these.

I implemented Panjoo's suggestions, and it feels like an improvement to me - thanks pan !

I also couldn't resist adding a little danger to the prime clifftop camping spot.  If you're up there and you hear what sounds like a jet coming in for an airstrike... you have about 3.5 seconds to "duck and cover."  :nana:

What we have running on tastyspleen.net:27999 now should be the final version.  (I'll attach the .override file to this post, for any who prefer to check it out locally with r1q2.)

sure it's great to see and all... but when it's hard to see the graphics are much more pleasing to the eye!
