Why Am I Getting Booted.??

Most likely it's the q2admin software.  It doesn't know anything about anticheat.  It gets confused by lag.  It sucks, and I need to hack its code to stop it booting people.

if you're from australia (?) then you'd get quite a lot of lag.. hence why you're getting booted - does any message come up when you get booted? e.g. Lethal_1 is using a speed hack!, Lethal_1 was kicked from the game or something like that.

anyways, whenever I get that, it's not because i'm banned or booted, its because I need to set q2 in the firewall to be allowed.. or sometimes that happens just connecting to far-away servers, or if my connect is having a shitty day... I dunno man

That's bizarre...  When q2admin makes a mistake, usually you'll see something like "yourname is using a modified client! yourname has been kicked!".  And when that happens, you can reconnect immediately without just getting "Connecting to 63.12.145.125:27911" over and over.

By the way, I presume 63.12.145.125 isn't the actual IP you're trying to connect to, as that seems to be a computer somewhere in Anchorage, Alaska.

Next time you get booted, could you save a condump from your console and post that here?

I.e. type this in your console after you get booted:

condump booted.txt

Then look for a file in your Quake2/baseq2 folder called booted.txt, and paste that here.

Here's one for ya.
When I connect to any tourney server through gamespy (not arcade), q2 says
"connecting to 208.3.88.29:27910" over and over.

Peculiar... that IP traces to some "nonexistent host" in Los Angeles area....

That's odd, it traces to somewhere around washington DC for me. 38.961N, 77.339W and is listed in the sprint network range 208.0.0.0 - 208.35.255.255

A google search of that ip turns up velocity.net, which I've played at, and is now dead. Still doesn't explain why gamespy is using it for a tourney mod connect.

I did a text string search of 208.3.88.29 in my gamespy directory(s) and turned up nothing. The same search in my quake2 folder(s) resulted in GameSpy.cfg located in the tourney folder. Among other things, it had this in it ..

The file was dated 9/6/2003. All I can figure is, an earlier version of gamespy must have wrote it there. I renamed it and now connect to the tourney servers normally from GS. Case closed. Hope this helps someone else.

OK ... I'm back and I'm Still Getting BOOTED, so WHY is this still happening.?? - Surely a server can't get FrEaKy over a ~230ms ping.??

Thanks for the condump.  That's not a tastyspleen server address.  That's some system somewhere an Anchorage, Alaska. 

Are you saying you are able to play on a tastyspleen server, and in the middle of the game, you suddenly get booted and see the above message?

How do you launch quake2?  Via GameSpy or some other browser?  (Which one?)

I would recommend looking at all the .cfg files below your Quake2 directory, and see whether any of them contains that IP address ("63.12.145.125").  (If you're viewing the .cfg files with Notepad, you can use the Edit...Find menu [Ctrl-F] to search for text in the file.)

Also, I would like to see a condump of what you see on your screen WHEN you get booted out of the game.

Again, there must be something weird with your config.  Because that IP address shown in your condump has no relation to tastyspleen.
