1) How fast can you pickup each weapon on q2dm1. (Not including handgrenades, but including each sg, mg, rl).
2) I wonder how hard is it to configure jumpmod for q2dm1 to track/time this. Important that it allow people to travel the map in any order, and maybe even start at any spot.

well if they're getting timed, the only problem I could see would be with allowing them to all start at different locations.
There is probably one spawnpoint on q2dm1 that is in the "fastest" place. Anyone not running from the one spawnpoint that leads to the shortest possible path, would end up with a handicap.
It might be better to arbitrarily pick one and force all spawning to that one pad.
This would put everyone on the same level at startup, but they'd still have to figure out which of many possible paths is the fastest.
just a suggestion from a non-jumper...

Count me out....I won't be picking up any BFG's or chainguns.
Matter of principle, see? Actually I would have a go as long as we didn't have to actually shoot them :/
You could call it 'Gun Run' or something.....
If you started at the rocket launcher would you then be able to do rocket jumps to get faster times?
If you were to include the BFG on the new Q2DM1 then we'd need rocket/grenade jump.
Is it even possible to select a specific spawning position?
How would the timing work? How do you time a run like that? Which mod would be able to accomodate such a thing? Surely some coding would be required.
Would you have weapon stay so multiple people could have a go at once?
I think the idea is good but fraught with niggling problems...very difficult to produce such a mod as far as I can see. But, like I say, good idea ... but so was Q2 Speedway mod ... at the time...Hah!

Thet only bad thing i see in this is.. You could start @ the high rocket by the water.. get rocker them go to the hyperblaster.. fall down to an elevator jump to the nade gun.. take tunnel to chain.. take tunnel back up and fall down the elevator drop to small machine gun...them to to shot gun & then ssg..
but if you do that order backwards it would take no skilljust straff jump and fall to guns...
Maybe a diffrent map would be better..
q2dm1 is more less a big circle.. why not take a map jump map like gxjump 1 have 1 starting point and guns in diffent locations through out the map.
^^^^^ just an example../ idea

Found these demos a few years ago from some q2 "skill" competition held by the Finnish q2 scene in 2001 or something.
One part was basically a route set up on q2dm1:
chaingun-jacketarmor-gl-hyper-upper rl-shards by water-railgun-rockets by water-mg in sewer-arena yellowarmor-ssg-ammopack-mega yellowarmor-mega
Fastest time won.
Then there was a rail competition where you were all the contestants where gathered in arena-floor and each took turns being the one at the ledge going from ssg to megaentrance who railed those below. The one who railed all the players in the arena the fastest won.
Intresting concept, guess it's something like the q2 olympics would look like.

Sounds neat! The rail comp, whoever dodged the best and had a fast time would have a distinct adantage
getting that last one's prolly a bitch, like getting the last invader in space invaders!

No by all means in not being negative.. I mean if some one can come up with a q2 route as DEF is talking about above to it i love the map... Just the people picking where to start really isnt fair..

I don't understand,If this is being playing on jumpmod then the first gun pick up will get u a time.I have been thinking about editing edge and whatever else as good as I can to have a good race map.I know this has been done before,but not properly,except 1 of wootwoots edge maps,so might have a crack at it.
