Changes in the Server... ?

Sup all, just registered here....these topics have most likely been covered but I don't feel like searching through everything right now. :p

Anyway....tastyspleen servers are awesome...yet they REALLLLYY need 2 things: Stats and map voting.

There's nothin like coming back to a map and seeing you're still in the top 10 for a map since april 04 or something.

Have these been considered...?? console?

Thanks for the kind words.  Been thinking about stats...   We have enough info in the log files that it should be possible to determine high scores / lowest-time finishes for the last 9 months or so I think.  I just have to get off my a** and write the code... 

Thinking about some kind of voting too; I've always been kind of ambivilant about traditional voting mods, because it has seemed it leads to frequent disruptions in the game, with certain players always hammering to change the map *now* to <whatever>...

Thinking of a way where players can view the "nextmap" list, and be able to get their own requests on it... in some sort of round-robin fashion, without needing to interrupt the current map with voting requests... ..... As with the stats, just a SMOP.   ("Simple Matter of Programming" ...    )

Yeah I thought about that....the servers get so crowded that I bet people would be voting all the time.

Anyway I'm glad you're workin on it.

At least get stats goin.

yes please start writing the script for stats on the servers. we love to see our names up on the end of every round so that we know we really do dominate over all other quake players and we can talk as much trash as we want to until someones actually beats our records. its actually the funnest part of playing quake 2 is being the number 1 one player or at least trying to get that spot.. thats how we know who the best player is


another thing you should make the frag limit like 100 so that theres more slack in the game.. you konw its more accurate as to who the real winner is.. because when the frag limit is only like 30 or some small number then its like hard to tell if they really won or not, because usually 2nd third and fourth places are really close.. its just funner with a higher fragf limiit and the winner is the one who gets the best times.. thats how the servers used to be back in the days. i know we dont exactly have that many people to play but on certain maps like slimy place q2dm7.bsp it usually gets finished in like 2 to 3 minutes so it would work that way. also if you enabled the quad and certain other good items then there would be more raw carnage per minute of gameplay and the game would be like alot faster ingeneral even as like a q3 style game.. see theres lots of shit u could do to the server.. plus as a fucken tasty speleen server vanilla u got like 20 people in there like all the fucken time.. u got so much traffic u could do some shit with that server man.. make it better >>SMOP

At the end of each round, it shows the Frags Per Hour.  That is who i personally gauge the winner to be.  Measured that way, it doesnt matter when you connected, it shows the most frags per time.

... rack up 10 frags in that last minute of the game with a bfg or a quaded rl\ssg and room full of unsuspecting players, ... Timelimit/fraglimit reached ... Wow! I'm the winner! (fph wise) Don't laugh, I've seen it happen several times. Other than that it's ok.

I've seen that too.  Have considered trying something like omitting players from the FPH board if they weren't in the game for--say--25% of the time whoever won the map based on frag count was.  (The "in game" time is reset by coming out of spectator.)

...Or something along those lines...
