I respect Gene's opinion on some things concerning the state of rock, but he's wrong on this and painting with too broad a stroke. We have crap for radio rock where I'm located, but I hear some good stuff when traveling around the state near college stations. But I'm always behind the curve when it comes to newer music it seems. Heck, I "discovered" Smashing Pumpkins through a co-worker about the time they disbanded.     Through younger friends I found stuff that was really good, but I never had exposure to them. Even an old favorite artist of mine (Bowie) had made Tin Machine I and II which I thought was good, but never heard it until the last year or so. I like Sparklehorse, although I found it after the dude had killed himself with a rifle. It's not really rock except for a few songs, but still good. What I'd love to see is another Them Crooked Vultures product. Dave Grohl on drums, John Paul Jones on bass and Josh Homme on guitar......excellent stuff. I could name others, but the point is I was a teenager in the 70's and I'm biased to that era and not much coming out these days approaches the level of musicianship common back then.  I have an open mind when it comes to new music, I guess it's just rare I find something that tickles this old geezers ears.

I think he's full of shit.

...but not always. Usually, he's a pretty smart guy, and I gotta admire certain qualities about him.

I'm not a huge fan of Kiss or anything. I do like their earlier stuff from the 70's and kinda-sorta from the really early part of the 80's. But I'm not one of these freaks that pays for a Kiss Army membership, has Kiss tattoos, or goes to Kiss concerts ever. But even though he's always been a huge rock star, he's mostly been very professional about it. Never been some strung out drunk or druggy, always stayed sober to put on the best show possible. You watch Family Jewels, and you can see that he obviously knows how to raise a kid properly. His kids were never like the Osbournes, they always had respect for their parents and were well behaved. When you've got the obscene amount of money he does, it's impossible to be a down-to-earth kinda person. And he's obviously no exception, because he is a bit conceited. But hey, he's fuckin' rich, he can afford to be. But still, he's what I'd consider very abnormal for someone like him. He's not some crazy space cadet with far left or far right viewpoints like a lot of celebrities. He's a pragmatist and a realist. And if anyone can be in a situation where they have more money than they can possibly spend, tons of people crawling on their knees to you and kissing your ass at all hours of the day and night... and still remain as semi-down-to-earth as he seems to be... they're okay in my book.
