Uncoiling a Cord

Okay, this sounds stupid, but I need to uncoil a headphone cord because it is too short. Coiled it is 3 feet, and uncoiled it is 9 feet. Is there any proper way of doing this?

My best guess would to strech it out for a few days.

I think there is something inside the cord to keep the shape though...

i would try and find something like a magic marker and start to wrap the coiled wire around it....that way you could leave it wrapped around the maker for a while to stretch it....then the next day you could replace the marker with something larger....but....you did say it was 9 feet....so maybe a magic marker wouldnt work......unless.....wait.....you-nah....but.....maaaybe.....you know how you can connect some magic markers end-to-end?....you could just.....yea....like a lot of them.....lol.....yea true buttocks worth a shot

Could try coiling it in reverse...  instead of changing sizes...

but...  maybe get/make an extention cord for it?
Rasio shack has all the parts you will need...
and prolly factory made cables if yer lazy

first plug it into your tower.
then sit in your chair and lean as far back as
possible for 36 hours while wearing the headphones.

after the 36 hours, you'll realize that you don't really care all that much about how
long your headphone cord is if you aren't willing to go buy an extension.

Rent a Hydraulic wire stretcher @ the local hardware store.
You may have to call around a bit, as not everyone carries them.
Electrical workers use them all the time.

Thanks for all the help. No matter what the cord returns to its original shape though. It is not that bad, I kinda gotten used to it.

I am not too impressed with extension cords. I once used one to hook up a sampler to some speakers, when I turned up the volume on the speakers all the way, I could hear AM radio!! I took out the extension cord, and the radio was gone. :p

It can really be a pain when you are getting radio interference.. lol.
You must be awfully close to a radio station's tower, or in just the right spot.


I get electical/radio interference here at work, because we have 15 R.F. welding machines right outside my
office window that we use to bond vinyl and other coated fabrics together.

They run on 220V and put off so much juice that your hair stands up just walking by them.
Some crafty guy figured out a good way to tell when the machines are on full-blast too:
They duct-taped 8in. neon light bulbs to the side of the machines (not plugged into anything).
When you turn on the welder, the lights go on nice and bright.

I can't use my headphones here at all when the guys are working, and I had to unhook my
subwoofer and one of the little surround-sound speakers from my comp to be able to use the
other speaker without really loud "boing!" noises emitting from it every 15 seconds.
I also had to put line filters on every mouse and keyboard on every comp in the building, or they'd
freeze up, every so often, because of the occasional crap-signal that the computer
thought that the input device was sending...

For some reason, the more complex your speaker/device wiring is, the more likely it is to
become a really sensitive antenna capable of screwing up your comp.
