The PS4 already has more pre-orders sold than the Xbox One, not that that carries much meaning.

While it may be true it's just a general date on amazon. Sony might just pull a stunt when most people have already bought the systems that the games can't be traded or used like MS did. i'd say a year or 2 in, they might just do that. or even just a few months after release. So they will still have the advantage of sales and realize they are losing out for not doing so. it's extremely lucrative. an opportunity not to pass up. Microsoft made a costly error by announcing their policy before release. we will see.

Sony doesn't need to backpedal. They already said that developers can decide what they want to do with used-games. It was Microsoft who changed its position to that as well, but they have more restrictions on used-games nonetheless.

Also, Microsoft really couldn't hide their policy. There were already rumors long before Microsoft officially gave their stance about DRM with the Xbox One, before their pre-E3 announcement. I'm not a gaming industry expert or game developer, but I thought that no used-games policy would help game publishers more so than the hardware companies.
