If you are running AVG Free then their is nothing you can do as the free shit ignores the exceptions.

/uninstall

I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware ( PRO ) and Microsoft Security Essentials. Ironically, I both of them turned off, I only run them like once a month or so, since I literally have no need for them as I don't go downloading random EXE's like half the idiots in the world.

Neither of them bitches about anticheat.dll  :forceac:

As long as you don't do a full scan and you manually set AVG to only scan certain drives and directories then all will be fine.

I only run them like once a month or so, since I literally have no need for them as I don't go downloading random EXE's like half the idiots in the world.
Ehm yeah because that's the only way malware shit gets on your pc, by downloading random exe's... rrrrrright.

If you are going to run a "free" AV, then MSSE is probably the best choice these days, the others are all so bloated they just slow you down and as you can see, lots of problems with exception lists and getting the user configuration to stick. Yes, asking MS to guard the henhouse is probably a bit crazy but at least they are not adding virus profiles just to out-spec and out-market the other guy. You're getting the shortest possible list of REAL threats to your machine. I used to be a fan of NAV, renamed to SAV, but they bloated out; then AVG looked better, they bloated up; then I recommended the paid NOD32 and they did some crazy stuff in their realtime scanner that just made it as slow as SAV. Marketing and specsmanship should never supersede effective and efficient code, but there it is.

After-infection tools like MSRT are perfect for eradicating an active infection with minimal damage to your system. I have used it in my work environment to eliminate some pretty serious infections on machines that were not updated to the latest patches and were infected by auto-run scripts on USB memory sticks.

Keep your system patched, treat all content online as potential sources of infection, run a realtime scanner like MSSE you can depend on. Don't do full manual system scans unless you actually suspect an infection or there was a zero-day reported and you are showing signs of an infection, let the realtime scanning do it's job. Make sure the AV product is decently configurable and don't be afraid to switch to a different brand if it isn't.

As a workaround I think the best way to scan is to tell AVG exactly what drives and directories to scan instead of using the Full System scan with exceptions.

Just a follow up. This has been working for the last bit.
